Hello everyone. Thank you for your great information and help! It really helped me purchase my new Pilot 09 EXL. Bought it today and I love it! I live in Houston, TX and I found out that Honda dealers here are really mean and won't work with you. Many were manipulative and even condescending. John Eagle- sent me two emails with "incorrect" pricing. Came in to dealership and was told that it was a mistake. They then quoted me for a Pilot 09 EXL with RES for $34,999 + TTL + Fees + Accessories = $39,000+. Would not budge with negotiating. I was told they cannot remove the dealer installed options so I had to pay for it. - I told them to quote me an EXL only = $37k+. Goodson - was very condescending. Online quote was $33,530+ttl. Came in and they quoted $34,230 + $1,200 in options + TTL= $38,100. they reduce price to $37,100. I told them it was beyond my budget, They told me to get a cheaper car! Russell & Smith - quoted $33,764+ttl which will be $36,137 drive out. I bargained OTD $34,000. They rejected it without a counter offer. It was like they didn't want my business. Gillman - $35,130.00 +TTL online. Offered to help me choose a 2008 with lots of rebates since it was beyond my budget. Honda of Clear Lake - I called and was quoted $33,600 OTD! Best price but refused to email me quote. I called, left two messages and no one returned my phone call. Their dealership is 1 hour away - I explained that - and that is why I didn't want to drive far and not have a printed quote in hand. No one called me or emailed me. Baytown Honda - quoted 36,100 OTD for 09 EXL. But when I said I was quoted $33,600 by Clear Lake, they worked with me. Called me back with counter offer of $33,800 as long as I financed with them. I was planning to do so anyway but I told them I would if their offer became $33,000 even OTD. They declined but said that it was the best offer they've given so far on the 09 Pilot. I went with Baytown. They were really nice. They didn't suggest that I get another car that's cheaper. They worked with what I could afford and matched price. Returned my emails and calls repeatedly. I think I bugged the heck out them. Thank you to redant4. Your emails really helped. But unfortunately, I guess where I live the best deal was $33,800 OTD. El Paso had good deals but 10 hour drive is too far and shipping was an extra $900. So even thought Baytown was a couple of hundred dollars more, it was closer to Houston. Thank you renew2 for your suggestion to check Baytown Honda. I wouldn't have looked otherwise.

I am going to Sacramento next weekend and plan on test driving a Honda Pilot 09. Any suggestions for dealers to see. I am hoping to get a 4WD with DVD and NAV. If I am correct the only choice I have to get both is the touring model. True? Thanks for any help.

I've not been on in awhile, yet I'm still shopping for an '08 (4WD) Pilot,..I don't even care if I come across a "used" one or a Dealer Demo with less than 5K miles. My approach has been to lay out the facts to the Dealers I've contacted via e-mail only, that SUV sales stink, Pilot sales thru May, YTD are down some 16% and most likely when June sales figures are available tomorrow they'll "soften" further (probably around 20%+ decline from a year ago). What I've read from some buyer's on this website seems to tell me they're not getting the best deal, given that there's a surplus of unsold product, lease returns for prior years ('07's especially) are coming in steadily to Dealerships, '08's, whether VP's, EX thru EXL's, aren't being discounted enough to offset the massive depreciation that will take place over the next four years under personal ownership. Does anyone know or have any experience with Landmark Honda in Alexandria, VA as they seem very aggressive on their internet e-mail offers but I feel they may be a "little shaky" on actual Dealer Reputation. They're offering EXL (4WD) '08's at $25,900+TTL but I'm thinking it'll get better as even at those numbers they still have unsold stock as we approach the July 4th sales period. I'm trying to be an informed buyer & have ZERO loyalty to any Dealership as I'm trying my darndest to "stick it to them,..this time" but so far it's not to the point where I feel I can't refuse their offers. The Dealers are definitely "in this together" and are "looking over each other's shoulder," therefore it's my feeling they don't want to deal with an informed & aggressive buyer. They want the emotional, "spur of the moment" shopper that thinks $5K off MSRP is a deal & I'm not that type. I'm going to try & GET IT ALL! Any advice/ suggestions or experience from a recent purchase that says, once you get into the Dealership & state the number you're willing to pay that they (the Dealers) "fold their hand" and you walk away with a true bottom line deal? |

End of June - I worked a deal for a 2008 Honda Pilot SE 4WD. I paid $26,159.00, which was the "out the door" price that included everything (ie., price, destination fee, processing fee, prep fee, and all dealer add ons - pin stripes and mud flaps). I did not use dealer financing. I did not have a trade in. After internet research, several internet quotes, visits to several dealerships, I determined the SE I wanted at the price I was willing to pay. During negotiations, the dealer's "final offer" for the SE was more than I was willing to pay. I had to walk away from the "final offer" to "think about it". (During negotiations, I informed the dealer that my plan B was to go to another dealership and buy my second choice vehicle - which was the lower model EX, which would have been less expensive. This was my honest intent.) The next day, the dealer called me back to negotiate further on the SE I wanted. In the end, I got the SE I wanted, at the price I was willing to pay. Entire process took about 2 weeks to complete. From my experiece, the dealers were nice to work with and very professional. I believe research, a strategy, sincerity, and patience are important when buying a new vehicle. This site was very helpful in my research. I hope I received a "good deal". In any event, I am a happy customer, with a great honda pilot.
