My 2008 VP 2WD Pilot deal by dwynne

I posted this in the Pilot lease forum as well, since we did the cheap (0.33%) AHFC lease, but I will leave out the lease details here.

My wife and I picked up her new Pilot from Hennessy Honda in Woodstock, GA on Monday.

Our deal was for the 2WD VP (in mocha metallic with saddle cloth, if it matters) for $23,923 including destination, plus dealer fee for a total of $24,397 for the Pilot, destination, and fee.

Invoice is shown as $25,630 so we paid $1,233 under invoice INCLUDING the dealer fees.

Note that the MSRP is/was $29,030 but the actual window sticker may show $28,230 with the $800 "special value package discount". AHFC uses the $29,030 to figure the residual and NOT the actual window sticker MSRP on the bottom line. That makes it that much cheaper .

The promo lease on the Honda web page calls for a selling price of $25,079.09 plus whatever the dealer charges for doc and prep fees. My local dealers would honor the promo price but would not come off of it at all - and they charge $400 or so in doc fees, so our $24,397 was nearly $1,100 cheaper than any other deal. Well worth the drive to get the Pilot from Hennessy.

Everything was pre-approved and done before we got there, so we just inspected the new Pilot, test drove it, signed the papers, and were ready to go. Our salesperson went out of her way to go over EVERYTHING on the new Pilot with my wife - for sure the most thorough delivery I have ever seen. She even set the clock to our time zone and set up some of my wife's favorite XM channels.

We got 23.4 mpg on the trip back home and that included some idling while we played with various things on the car. Not bad for an EPA rated 22 mpg SUV.

We considered the 2WD EX model, but in the end the extras (power seat, auto climate control, fog lights, etc) just were not worth the nearly $2k higher price (at invoice). VP includes XM while it is extra cost on the EX as well.

If you are not leasing, you could probably get a bit better of a price due to the dealer incentives.

My wife loves her Pilot and is very happy, and if my wife is happy then I am too .

I've been quoted $27,952 for an EX 4WD in the Cincinnati area. I'm thinking there is a little more room here. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Buying or leasing?

$28,838 is shown as invoice price and there is a $1,500 dealer incentive for sold Pilots and we hear a $1,000 incentive for leased Pilots. So $27,383 would be at dealer cost (not counting hold back) so your price is $569 over invoice less the incentive. The hold back on this Pilot is $953.40 so the dealer is making a nice profit at this price.

So yes, if buying, there is quite a bit more room here.

Have you checked with Swope in Louisville? I have done business with them a couple of times and sent a lot of folks their way and they normally have really low Internet prices. They do have a high doc fee, but the net of the price and fee is normally much better than I can get locally. E-mail me for a contact, or just go through their web page for a price quote.

We bought our Pilot on 12/18/07 from a dealer on Rt 10 in Denville NJ. Sticker was a bit more than $34K and we paid $28.5K Was a real easy and professional buying experience. Very happy with the car so far.

Hi dwynne,

Does that means that we could get $26,385 deal for EX 4WD? Is the dealer possible to offer that?

thank you very much!

Thanks Dennis. I suspected that they should be able to come down some more. Since the holdback is $900+, I would think that invoice less the incentive would be doable.
