Those are also R129 wheels...a C124 body on a R129 platform, never heard of that before, and in 6cyl guise I don't know what the advantage would be. Converting a 300SL doesn't have a lot of point as the same engine could be had in a C124 to begin with. Germany is known to make some wacky customs, this is one, and it does appear period. I bet it was frightfully expensive to have built. The brochure must be from the custom shop that made it, it's not a DBAG product.

I also notice the hood and trim don't line up to factory specs. The hood could simply not be closed properly...but I dunno about the rest. It's a freakshow.

I'm thinking when you chop a unibody in half and reweld it, it's not goijng to be as strong or safe for that matter.

The doors appear to be out of alignment too.

I suspect the short wheelbase is all that saves it. That being said, I wouldn't want it. If I am to get an old custom MB I am going to get an AMG widebody SEC or a freaky old Sbarro SEC with Testarossa cheese grater side trim etc.

You have a good selection of period tuner Benzes here

Your cheese grater is waiting for you at the bottom of the page.

LOL those are so funny, so tacky. I'd have to wear a Miami Vice style pastel suit if I drove one.

The 126 cars are so good looking in my eyes though. I was just out for a walk and saw a very clean 89-91 560SEL in a suitable dark blue. Still so handsome and well-proportioned after all these years.

I agree. They have nice lines and don't need any tacky body kits or aftewrmarket grilles.

If anything, maybe nice period style wheels would suit these cars (no 20+ inch chrome monsters).

I also don't like the SEC grilles/hoods adopted to fit that period's E class sedans or coupes. They seem too wide and not a nice fit in my opinion.

...a poorly restored 1971 MGB, (had red-orange overspray on the tires) and a late 1980s Dodge Omni - kind of reminded me of my Mom's old car.

That is a bad paintjob when the TIRES get overspray.

The flat face 15" chrome wheels look good on these cars, that's what I eventually had on my 126. I also like some period Centra and Lorinser wheels - those are seldom more than 16". Old AMG 5 spoke wheels from the 80s suit the cars too, and even classic AMG monoblocks don't look bad on a 126.

I have seen those dumb SEC grilles all the way down to W201/190 series cars - and on everything up from there. I don't think they look right at all, especially on a sedan.

No they're too wide for the smaller cars and cover part of their headlights.

I also wasn't a big fan of any 80s MB with the stand up hood ornament rtemoved and replaced with a gigantic grille mounted one. Most looked out of place imo except on models that had it originally from the factory.
