Acura TSX, Sedan
#4732 of 5069 Shopping sports sedans

I'm about to trade my '04 Accord LX 4 cyl. for a sports sedan and have driven the BMW 325i, G35, Acura TL, Mazda6, Lexus IS300 (used) and, just yesterday, the Acura TSX.
This was my first drive in a TSX and I really loved the car. It seemed to fit me like a glove, fit and finish are exceptional, and it was a very nimble handling car. Softest leather on the seating that I've experienced.
The only thing that gave me pause was the 4 cyl. engine, since I was assuming I'd move to a 6 cyl. The TSX seemed pretty peppy, though it may have reved a little higher in some cases than a 6 cyl. would. Seemed quiet and composed at 65-70 mph. Car & Driver has knocked it for what they consider low power, but otherwise love it, since it's a TenBest pick.
So my question is, has the relatively lower power and torque (about 164 lb. I think) been an issue with any of you?
My other question is about availability. I think the initial 2004 model year U.S. allotment was only about 15,000 units. Has Acura increased this for 2006? My local dealer had only a demonstrator he couldn't sell and a silver one that someone was negotiating to buy as I was there. Is there better availabilty where you are, or is it somewhat of a seller's market?
Thanks for any input you can give me. This is really a beautiful car and I feel on the verge of making a trade. The parchment interior was my favorite, and I can imagine it looking great with the dark blue or green exterior.

Thanks for the info. I am in a huge dilema right now. I own a 2003 BMW and the lease is up in a month. I am very concerned about the 2006 BMW because of the run flat tires, the lousy sound system, the higher price, and the gas milege.
I test drove the TSX and loved it. Your post inspired me. If you have any more info on the TSX that you like compared to the BMW, I would love to hear them.

Dealers usually sell pretty aggressivly at the end of the month - could be the reason for low availability. Last month the TSX had a record month - almost 4,000 sold. Honda can raise the allocation (made on the same assembly line as the EuroAccord) - within reason. It is not a sellers market - in some markets the car is going for invoice.
It shouldn't matter what others think about the power - was it enough for you?
Try to sell your Accord privately - it holds its value very well - in a private sale - you might not like the deal a dealer will give you.

Thanks for the perspective on allocation and the general market for the TSX. My test drive the other day was my first visit to an Acura dealership with this particular car in mind, so their lack of inventory is such a narrow perspective. I'm going to check the situation at some nearby cities. The best I've done with a new car purchase is 3 percent over invoice on a Camry. Invoice for a TSX would be nice. We'll see.
Yes, I'm prepared for a private sale of my Accord, though I prefer the convenience of a dealer trade. Selling it within the family is the easiest deal of all -- I've been fortunate to do that with a few of my cars, all of which are perfectly maintained and a real bargain.

I test drove the TSX last week and really liked the car. The nimble handling and perfect interior sold me. Consumer Reports rates the TL higher, but the TSX seemed just right for my needs. 90% of the time it's just me in the car and the 4 cylinder had plenty of high rpm power and was fun to drive.
Am I missing something besides the V6 and bigger interior space of the TL?
#4738 of 5069 TSX Insurance cost

I was surprised that the TSX insurance quote came in 40% higher than my '05 Chevy SUV. Besides replacement cost, is there anything about the TSX that insurance companies don't like?

It all boils down to what's the right car for you. If the TSX fits the bill, buy it and spend the left over $7000 on something else.
#4740 of 5069 Acura TSX vs. Mazda6 s Grand Touring
Jun 07, 2006 (11:20 am)
I'm curious why no one has compared the 2006 Acura TSX to the 2006 Mazda6 s Grand Touring. They are both sport sedans, almost identical pricing, features, and amenities. On paper, the Mazda appears to have an edge (V6, 18" wheels, 6 sp AT). Anybody out there driven both?

Sounds like an interesting comparison - feel free to fire up a new discussion!
