Actually, if you read the UK JD Power long term rankings for Ecotec equipped Vectras and Astras, its reliability is only mid-pack. I'd trust those rankings, seeing as the Ecotec's been out there for a few years before it was introduced here.

Too bad the '04 Impala SS won't be getting the new S/C 3800 Series III engine that the '04 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP will be getting. Apparently they don't want to share this new engine (260 ponies) with Chevy. Bad business decision! They also wouldn't share their S/C 3800 Series II with Chevy, until now

"They sell factory/dealer installed superchargers on all Ecotecs, reggie.... Esp the Sunfire."

Point me to a link that details this please.......I know superchargers will be available on the Vibe soon but that is a different motor.

Maybe a Cavalier or Sunfire is not a bad idea if you blower it up cheaply.

jpstax: Yeah, it's weird.. They say they don't wanna "step on Pontiac's toes" but I don't know the true reason. There's no way I'd buy an Impala SS with the GTP getting the Series III, I'd get the GTP. hmmmm

reggie: Just do a search for the link... it's online...

S/C links by jpstax

You might want to look over these links for superchargers, although the Ecotech motor would use a turbocharger:

doesn't look factory supported like the one on the Vibe. Supercharger would be preferred over turbo in an aftermarket install I would guess.

If its not factory warranted, I wouldn't want it.

OK sorry about the disruption. Back to IM PA LA.

No, the dealer installed/bought forced induction for the Ecotecs are Superchargers, not Turbos... I believe they make a little over 200HP

yes, but are they dealer installed with full factory warranty? The Vibe supercharger is on the pontiac site and I see no such info on anything related to ecotec.

Yes, I believe the do have the warranty with them, certainly when dealer installed. I'll see if I can dig up some info later on..

maybe i could stomach the looks of an Ion for 11 grand if I could put a factory warranted supercharger on it and get 180 horsepower.

I saw a white Impala LS with tan leather today. I think the Impala is decent looking, if conservative. Might be the best color combination for that car. Wish they'd make a yellow Impala with white leather and black dash.
