#531 of 540 GLAD we waited for new 5 by pborgm

My wife wanted to get a BMW wagon for almost two years, now. We waited to see the new 5 design once the redesigned 7 came out. We are GLAD we waited...

BMW has done EXACTLY what it needed to do - come up with a cutting edge design that generated a LOT of talk. The old models were SO outdated. Kind of like Lexus - they make a great car, but the design is OLD.

When I see a new BMW on the road, I get EXCITED. I haven't felt that way about a car in a long, long time.

Can't wait to get our (it's "ours" now, not "my wife's" since I like the new design so much!) new 5-series wagon in '04.

For you enthusiasts, here's our new "Generations" article that takes a look at the history of the 5-Series:

i am trying to decide which wagon to get for my first bmw. the older series 3 or wait a few months for the 5. does the 5 have that much more room? is it much worse on gas? and mainly, will it be full of trouble, being a new design and all, where the 3 is older and stabilized in the trouble spot department?
my friends are sick of my indecision, but its a huge commitment for me! also, will i find the 3 wagon too small on the road? (im coming from a land cruiser, dying to get closer to the ground!)

I guess it depends on how much you'll be hauling. Keep in mind, the 3 wagon is only offered with the 2.5l engine. The 5 does have more leg room in the rear seat, but I don't know how it will compare to the 3.

The 3 wagon is pretty small, that would be a big adjustment to come from a TLC.

I'd look at the 5er, the V70, the 9-5, there are lots of great choices in mid-size lux wagons.

You could even look at the new caddy SRX. Edgy design, but for some people it works.

You may also want to check out the touring cars (read wagons) from Audi. VERY classy design.

#538 of 540 new wagon colors by newie

Mar 03, 2004 (9:56 am)

i have a small question about the colors of 5 series touring due this winter. do they traditionally come in the same colors as the 5 series sedan? or does the touring have one or so colors of its own?
thank you

Again, the wagon is the most attractive of the 3. The hatch look stubby and too tall, out of proportion.

The convertible doesn't look as good as that concept from the NY show from a couple years back.
