heavy steering/firm ride

I have a 06 EX V6 coupe auto trans. Is it me or what cuz the steering on this car is VERY heavy. Also, ride is firm, almost TOO firm. Must be the 17 inch wheels but you can feel the bumps and the steering feels as tho there is no power to it, almost like the old days of manual steering. Not really a big deal but was wondering what others think about it. Guess I won't be lowering this car as ride quality will go right out the window.

Interesting that you find the steering heavy in your coupe.
I have an 04 EX-L sedan, and I find the steering is too light. It's really annoying when driving a curvy road one handed.

Took this car out twice before I bought it and never really noticed it. Must be the revised suspension bushings and 17 inch wheels. Anyone with an 06 V6 coupe or sedan experience the same condition?
Mr. bill - thanks for reply

i do think the ride is firm ('06 6-spd sedan), but that's why it can handle so well. Besides, I'm not a fan of soft-riding cars.
I don't find the steering too heavy, but, then again, I've only had sporty cars the past 7 years, so maybe its just something I'm used to. I find the steering in my wife's SUVs too light.

I also like a firm ride but this borders on TOO firm. Its not really a big deal but its mostly the heavy steering. But yes, handling is decent for a car that weights over 3300 lbs. Maybe I am just used to driving lighter cars with lighter steering like my 2000 Civic SI. That car is lowered a little over an inch and ride quality is just slightly harsher than stock. Hey, maybe its just me.

Well, sure, a heavier car will need to be more tightly sprung to produce similar handling to a lighter car (typically). Considering the weight difference, the fact that your accord achieved skidpad numbers VERY close to your Si (.84 vs .82, according to C&D), its not surprising.
Honda could have boosted the steering more, but, honestly, then you'd probably hear complaints of it being "numb" and "unsporty."
There is just no pleasing everybody. As long as you continue to be happy with the car, that's all that matters.

Well, I can live with the firm ride and heavy steering as long as I know its not exclusive to my car and I know that it helps the overall handling of the vehicle. And Yes, I am happy with the car and the overall performance of it. Thanks to all for replies and info. Good forum with good people....

no problem.
ya know, you might want to take a poll (probably have better luck on a dedicated Accord board on the internet) of folks who have lowered their coupes to find out if it made the ride more harsh, and what kit they used.
I have heard of some instances where installing lowering springs actually improved the ride. I have to assume a case like this would happen when the factory springs just weren't very good quality or just REALLY harsh. Who knows. In any case, its worth investigating.

ok, good idea, will check out a dedicated accord forum. Just dont want to drop this car (even an inch) if this will make the ride even firmer. My civic si is lowered just slightly over an inch and ride quality is just slightly firmer than stock and thats on OE shocks. Believe it or not the ride is very similar to the Accords stock ride so you can understand my concern. Thanks again for info.

I have an 03 Accord 6spd coupe, and my previous car was a 99 Civic Si (same as your 2000). The Civic was a great car, but it is basically a go-kart compared to my Accord. I had some buyers remorse when I first bought my coupe (mostly because I missed my Si), but after 3+ yrs of ownership and 28K miles, I absolutely love this car. My ride is even harsher because I run summer tires with warm weather, and go back to the (awful) Michelin Pilots in the winter. But the handling dynamics are great with the better tires. I can't say enough about my 6spd coupe. Will probably keep it for years since I can't find anything to get me out of it. And it's MUCH faster than the Si was.
