Bought it used! by badblueboy

Have 03 Electric Blue turbo. Was wondering sense my sticker said it was suppose to have the rear stabilizer bar if it is to late to try to get it from Chrysler to install at there expense. Also, does anyone know if the earlier PT Cruiser option of heated mirrors will fit on the 03, and if the wires are there for it. Thanks!

It is worth a try to get DC to pay for the rear bar, but don't expect much from DC. Early in the model year a number of dealers installed the rear bar under warranty (without hassle), though many others dealers would not. The bar makes a significant difference in the way the car feels (more stable with a tied to the road feel). I'm not sure of the cost, but it should not be expensive should you decide to DIY. Took about 30 minutes for my dealer to install the rear bar.

Just a guess on the mirrors. They will probably fit but don't know if the wires are there. The mirrors are easy to remove, so it should be easy to see if the wires you need are there.

The service manual for the 03 PT does not show heated mirrors, but does have the description and wiring diagram for power folding mirrors.

Turbo convertible by redturboboy

I drove a new PT Cruiser convertible yesterday. Stone white, 220 hp turbo with autostick. It was hot and sweet. Put the top down, nearly froze the carsalesman to death. Sticker was 28500.00. Ist one I know of here in Columbus, Ohio. They wanted 16k plus tax and title AND my 2003 turbo with 15000 miles on it. I offered 14 k out the door and the only thing that went out the door was me. I will try again after there are more around.

2003 GT by norrmanndo
Apr 13, 2004 (1:03 pm)
My wife and I recently bought a PT GT (manual) for our second car. I assumed it would be hers and she assumed it would be mine since we paid less for it than our other car, but now both of us want to drive the PT. Our other car just sits in our carport. It's a 2003 that was delivered to the dealer about June '03. I was just wondering if I really messed up by not getting a 2004. Sure I had more incentives, but not that much more. I also know the resale value is much less already. Is there any significant difference between a late '03 and an early '04? Also, what is a stage 1 kit? I already have the high output engine, is this worth considering? Just a note on power. If I need power, I like to keep it at 3500 rpm or higher, that way the turbo is on. If I'm in first gear at 3500 steady (I think this is something like 20mph) and I punch it, it will actually chirp the tires without involvement of the clutch. I can also burn rubber in second gear. I guess I was just a little disappointed in Edmunds review on the turbo being "too slow". If you know how to drive it, it's not too slow.

Obviously, you need to get rid of the car in the garage, trade it in for a second PT Cruiser.

My personal opinion is that if you are happy with the PT Cruiser, don't worry about second guessing yourself. Just enjoy the car whenever you can pry it out of your wifes hands.

There are few differences between the 03 and 04. The rear wing is standard on the 04 and optional on the 03. The side mirrors are different. The 04 mirrors are slightly larger and have air deflectors to redirect airflow away from the side windows. I installed the 04 mirrors on my 03 - a little less wind noise. Power is essentially the same and comes on quickly. Mine is an automatic and power is almost instant, even a low speeds.

The stage I kit is not expensive (about $400) and increases boost (and power) at mid and upper rpm. You should also get the replacement boost pressure valve for use with the stage I kit too.

Suggest you have the formerly standard rear sway bar (or after market one) installed. Makes a huge difference in how the car feels. Much more tied to the road feel, with greater stability in corners, rough roads, and curves. The bolt holes are already there.

Also, add the formerly standard hi note horn for added safety ($20). The wires, plug, and mounting hole is already there.

Cabin air filters are also available from the dealer (about $10) if you would like a pollen filter.

I don't understand Edmund's evaluation either. Even with an automatic the car is quick, though it can easily overpower traction available at low speeds.

Buying a PT Cruiser Next Weekend by keri4god
Apr 24, 2004 (5:08 pm)
Hi everyone! I test drove several cars over the past few weeks and really fell in love with a PT Cruiser. I am probably going to get the Turbo Limited Edition, only because I need that little kick since I drive on the freeways a lot to get to work and school. I was wondering a few things...a. do any of you have any problems with yours after a few years? b. what kind of gas mileage do you get on average? I'm going to get the leather as well as moonroof, i'm so excited! I'm trading in a 2000 Ford Focus which I have come to find out will be about $3995 trade in value. About what I expected. Anyway if you could help me out, thanks so much in adavance!

4 Keri Prob and MPG by fndlyfmrflyr

Cruisers are usually reliable. In almost two years we have had only one problem with our GT. Best assembled car I have ever purchased. Much better than my Acura MDX, and better than my Toyotas too.

Don't expect high mpg with a Cruiser. Our almost two year old Turbo, which is not driven hard, has only averaged about 18 mpg over all. I've seen as high as 25 on the highway, but 23 or so is normal. I doubt the low pressure turbo will do much better. The non-turbo models do better. The EPA numbers were not high for our GT and I am not disappointed with the fuel economy. However, with gasoline prices almost $2.50 per gallon around here it would be nice if it did get better mpg.

If I was to replace our GT with another Cruiser I would get a low pressure turbo model and add the Stage I turbo kit. It would cost less than the GT and have more power, while having a nicer ride too.

Silly Questions by nicegator
May 03, 2004 (9:06 am)
Hi, Everybody,
hope I'll be welcomed - just ordered an 04 GT (they had not it in stock at all). Could somebody answer to a couple of Silly Questions - but the salesman and edmunds have no answers:
1.what type of gasoline can be used in turbo 220 hp?
2.what is a turning radius (I had no feeling it is as huge as it stated in Editor's review - just about Saab 900 turbo from 98 we have)
3.How often it is recommended to change brake pads?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Gator
