You are in the Prices Paid - Buying & Leasing Experiences
What is this discussion about?
Acura MDX, Car Buying, SUV

Acura website now has the 2010 MDX. You can build and price the 2010 model.
If I purchase a 2010 MDX with Tech at
Invoice compared to a 2009 MDX with Tech at Invoice minus $2,000 rebate I think the 2010 model is a better deal.
Go ahead and compare. Thus, the incentive on the 2009 models (if there are any left) is likely to increase in January.
I prefer the 2010 model with tech at invoice. For about $2000 more you get 6 speed tranny, milano leather, nicer rims, fatter steering wheel, paddle shifters, revised exterior, etc.

I need all the help I can get before going to the dealership. I really like the MDX and will like to get it. CUrrently I have a 2005 Nissan Murano and still have 2 more years payment (HUGE mistake). I bought the car new off the lot and pay $560 a month for it, I cannot believe I signed up for 72months to pay for it. Anyway, I am ready for another car, my murano is a basic S AWD ; I need a car with technology package at this point. Here are my questions; (please make answer as simple as possible as I am truly clueless...LOL)
1) Is it better for me to trade in my car at a place like carmax or sell privately? The blue book value is $12,500 for a trade-in and I owe $9500 on the car.
2) I want to lease the MDX; I saw a special for $459 but I don't know what the fine print means. I really don't want to pay more than I am paying now. But I really really need the technology package
3. What other hidden fees/cost should i try to avoid?
BTW, I have good credit and I am looking in the Baltimore, MD area. Thanks in advance for your help

As far as trading in your old car is concerned, Kelly's Blue Book is useless. For any old car that's quoted in the $10-15k range in KBB, a dealer will typically offer you $2-3k less than that KBB value. You may get a better price from a private buyer, but it comes down to luck. You never know how long you have to wait for the desirable offer.
Don't have a clue whether a place like Carmax would pay more or less than the dealer.

#9239 of 13274 Just purchased! 09 MDX Base
Dec 14, 2009 (11:28 am)
Just got home from purchasing my new 2009 MDX Base / Silver/ Black interior in South New Jersey.
Thanks to the great info on this forum I was able to walk out 36,600 +TTL. I feel this was a pretty good deal. All weather mats were thrown in as well. Traded in a 2006 Honda Accord SE. It was about only 45 minutes of negotiating. The dealer was very friendly and the management staff was very upfront and easy to negotiate with. I was also the only buyer in the dealer at the time this morning. They have 2 more Base Models on the lot and told me that the '10s would be arriving next week.

You could try to get them to knock the dealership fees and maybe get closer to the 36.5k+TTL range. That seems to be the common price lately. If you're handy, find the OEM running boards from ebay for about $425 and try to install it by yourself to save few hundreds bucks. I installed my sport running boards in about 3.5 hrs.

Were you there in person or over email/phone? I was able to get my price after about 45 minutes and 3 rounds of back and forth pricing. I think you can easily do better. I think 36998 is a good starting point..I can't believe the dealer fees would be so high ??! (699?) That's crazy!

yeah I don't think I would waste too much more time with them. Dealerships are dealing all around on these cars and the 36 range with everything short of TTL is achievable with a little bit of negotiating. I don't know where you are located but around here there are about 10 or so dealerships so its easy to just go down the street to the next guy.
