Just brought home a 2009 Tech/Ent: -- Sales price: Invoice plus destination ($43090) minus Incentive ($2000) for a total of $41090, then add accessories- roof rails, cargo mat, all weather mats- and fees/document/title/tags ($954) for a final total of $42044. Tax is separate. We used the 3.9% financing, and I may get an extended warranty from Bernardi Acura (best prices online). -- Based on this board, the range recently for a Tech/Ent (without fees and accessories) has been at best $39500 or so to around $42500. I was happy with $41090 as a comparison. Last fall, with $4 gas and a $3500 incentive, the Tech/Ent could be had below $39000. -- I think the disparity in prices has everything to do with supply, demand, and competition by region. I'm in the Great Lakes area- lots of snow- and looked across 4 cities. No one would come close to the invoice minus incentive deal I got, and it has to be because inventory is low, the car is popular here, and there aren't that many dealers around. -- I think the folks who got better deals recently benefitted from cities with higher inventory or less demand or more competition. Of course, I'm sure they were good negotiators also! -- For what it is worth, for folks using this board to help guide your negotiating, I think that using the figures posted to guide your offer makes sense, and shopping across dealers and cities makes sense, but if you find that you can't get a Tech/Ent for $39500 in your region- don't feel bad. If you like the car and got a good deal in your region (and you'll know it because other dealers won't match it) then buy it, drive it, and enjoy it. You just can't compare a deal someone got with a desperate dealer in Boston to a dealer with low inventory and high demand in Pittsburgh. No point feeling bad over a few hundred bucks. Anyways, happy shopping.

Replying to: amcdad (May 29, 2009 3:38 pm) i really need advice from people on this board... i had negotiated a adjusted cap cost of 41,750 for tech/ent with all-weather mats and trunk tray... but when he was telling me the monthly, it just wasnt working out on the lease calculator... when i asked the dealer to fax me the contract before i signed it, low and behold there is an adjusted cap cost value of 41,995... so when i called back he was like, this is a state tax which must be paid by everyone, yadah yadah... i told him that i don't mind paying legitimate taxes, which i am paying upon delivery of the vehicle before drive-off, but he totally sneaked this one in... and what's worse, he rolled it into the lease payment and thus made it like $7 more... i know that at this point it may seem like nothing when buying a 40k plus car, but its a matter of principal and i couldnt have been more clear to him that i wanted a 41750 adjusted cap cost... it jsut pissed me off when it just threw everything off... so i told him to give me back my down payment that i made to hold the vehicle and he said that he would have to wait till the morning when his sales manager comes back in... so i am gonna wait it out and call his bluff, and hope that they agree to my terms as i really like the car and think that its a good price... but i don't want to have a bad taste in my mouth when paying so much for a car, especially in this economy.... so what input does everyone have, sawllow my pride and go for it (if he doesn't agree to my terms in the morning) or just stay put and wait for the next best thing (whenever that comes along)?????????

Replying to: nabeelfarooqui (May 29, 2009 3:57 pm) In my experience, the acquisition fee is always added to the negotiated price as an extra- no getting around it. I don't think dealers view it as a normal DMV fee. Also in my experience, the Leaseguide Calculator is a great tool, but is often a few bucks off what the dealer comes up with. Having said all that, if the dealer agreed to $41,750 inclusive of all fees, and he included a $245 dollar fee at the end, you have every right for an explanation. In some cases, they do that with a "document fee". That happened on my deal. I researched the doc fee in my state, and basically the state law allows it, doesn't require it, and all dealers charge it. I decided that it was nonsense and just profit... but I also decided to pay it and move on. Even with the $250, it was the best deal I was getting in the region by a long shot- and we like the car. So, if I were you, I'd get the explanation, I'd tell them how displeased you are and you want it removed. If they refuse, it comes down to how much you like the car. I let the $250 doc fee slide because this was the car we wanted and I was still getting a good deal, but you'll have to decide what is best for you. If the principle of it bothers you too much, definitely walk. But if you like the car enough and will later regret not getting it for the cost of a Starbucks and bagel each month, go get it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Replying to: amcdad (May 29, 2009 5:48 pm) thanks for the advice, and the starbucks analogy... i think that it just hits the point home that i will need to budget other, non-sensical costs in my monthly budget... i think that i will go for it... thanks p.s. - just hope that the car is still there in the morning... dealer threatened to sell it.. |

Just purchased a 2009 MDX with Tech for $39,800 included destination but add tax title and $50 doc fee. in upstate NY. not great..but average. My 2003 XC90 with 150,000 miles, which I loved, completely died and bearings spun in engine..dead car. So was in a hurry to buy. Best offer was from Manchester, CT dealership for 39, 400. Seemed like good guys. At end of day, I needed car quick so I paid the extra $400 and bought locally ( 10 miles from house), which I eventually probably coulda gotten lower, but wasn't worth buying out of state 3 hours away. The upstate NY Dealer didn't have what I wanted, but in 48 hours they located and delivered what I wanted..silver with taupe interior. I am not sure whether to purchase extended service contract for $2,183 or the pre paid 48/48k Maintenance program for $ 1, 389. I drive 20-25k miles / year in my sales job..any input on these programs would be appreciated

One of the things I have not seen a lot of is prices paid for pre-owned - We just picked up a 2008 pre-owned with Nav for $34K - It has 9800 miles, balance of the manuf warranty, and is absolutley perfect - Original sticker was $43,200 plus destination. So I am getting a great car at almost $10K less. thoughts?

Replying to: mjmboardwalk1 (May 30, 2009 5:27 am) IMO, no, not a good deal. Why buy a used 08 when the same 09 can be purchased for 4k more (including destination, before TTL)? Also, considering this is the time when Acura starts ramping up the incentives on the MDX, equally poor decision. You could get a base 2008 MDX for 32k or a MDX w/Tech pkg for 35.5k last year in sept-november. I'm currently shopping for a new 2009 MDX w/Tech, and the best price I have now with little negotiation yet is 38.6k. Of course, as long as you're happy with your purchase, who cares? |
