What model did you purchase for that price? Was that OTD?

The dealership called me today and accepted the offer I made for '09 Tech pkg w/ body side molding and destination fee for $38,400. They'll be receiving the car later this coming week. I hope there isn't any funny business when I go look at the car. Though I'm prepared just for that.

I paid $38,400. for MDX Tech including destination no added options + NJ tax and dealer fees (which were the same with every dealer). I purchased the car on December 31st at Acura of Ramsey in North New Jersey with the 2.9 financing.

I went in knowing all the incentives Acura offered and offered them 38,400. and they accepted offer with no counter offers.

MDX offer? by chrisrbr

Glad I stumbled on this great forum.
I'm just about to buy an '09 MDX tech or sport, (still can't decide which.), but was pleasantly surprised at the deals some of you have gotten. I live in RI, so Acura of Boston sure looks like a contender.
Do you have the best luck by submitting an offer or by asking the the various dealers for their best shot?
thanks for any info

Don't submit an offer first. Go to edmunds.com or Vehix.com and get a free price quotes from various dealers all at once. It helps to indicate exactly what u want. From that point on u will get multiple offers. Take the lowest price and reply to all of them with that price to see if they can beat it. Keep going till u get the best price then negotiate them further.

Some things to remember.
1. Put your phone number down to let them know your serious.
2. Tell them you will buy immediately. Of course u won't be.
3. Always be nice with emails and verbally. U never know if one deal falls through u need to go back.

Good Luck

MDX base model price by cooper62

I negotiated a base model MDX for $35,300 but left feeling unsure about the deal - the dealer wouldn't budge on accessory pricing and said no .9% or 2.9 %financing at this price - an incentive finance fee in my area right now (NY/CT) - anyone have any input?

Like someone else mentioned, you'll probably want to send out notice for some quotes and go from there. There are 2 or 3 dealers in MA that are always eager to deal. just like i had preconceived notions (i.e. not good) of Acura 5 years ago before i test drove the TL, i never did think i would deal with a dealership near boston. Their internet dept was however the most willing to offer a decent non-MRSP quote; if i remember correctly, prime acura also gave a better quote, the only problem was their location from where i was. I used this better quote from Prime, was comfortable paying around that number (invoice minus acura incentives); then called Acura Boston and that the started the "what will make you come into the dealership game". a few hundred below my lowest quote was offered and i took a chance since i was going into the city anyway.

Things to note:

1. don't expect your phone conversation to be "remembered" correctly. you'll have to start negotiations again once you get there.

2. don't start adding accesories after agreeing to a price for the vehicle - they WILL jack you on these things.

3. dont' buy the acura remote-starter (it blows). they will try to sell you a warranty (ironically, they'll try to jack you on this but acura of boston (aka bernardi acura actually has the best online warranty price, read up on the options and get them to offer their online price or buy it later with a credit card).

4. don't be afraid to walk out. i realized in midstream negotiations that i was getting jacked on accessories (mistook prices for the wrong step boards) and actually just left (had to pick up a friend at the airport and didn't have time to re-start negotiations). they called me every hour on the hour after i left and i ended up making a deal over the phone instead (and they kept their end of the bargain when i drove back in just before they closed that day).

I asked for accessories after agreeing on price and they gave them to me. You never know unless u ask. All they can say is no.

09 MDX with Tech package by mim8

an online rep just forwarded me this when I told him that I have read posting of people paying 38,400 for this car...
09 MDX with technology package, MSRP $45,800.00, Dealer invoice $41,685.00, manufacturer's dealer cash back $2000.00 net dealer cost $39,685.009 ( the promotion is either $2000.00 cash or special financin0.9% 36 month or 2.9% 60 month) majority of our clients use the cash rebate.

The postings on line are not acurate and they never tell you if the car was demo with miles on or any other issues with them. The numbers you shared with me is about $ 1,600.00 under invoice with the body side moulding. We will work with you on the price and specially if you have your TL to trade. We will make you happy with the deal and most importantly we have the best service and suport for you.

You can reply to the dealer that the 7000+ posts on here are probably all made up =) JK! Dealers will say what they have to say to make their profit (and I'm sure more than a few buyers will say what they have to say to save some $). There are certainly some variables that can increase the pricing or decrease which can include region, demand, how much the dealer is willing to eat into their holdback, etc. The dealer's advantage is that he/she has the MDX you like and knows how much he/she is willing to let it go for and how much he/she is willing to give you for your TL but your big advantage, well hopefully depending on what region you are in, is competition. Hopefully, you have several dealerships within a geographic location you are comfortable with traveling to and finding out who can match the 38400 or if not, how close they will come to it. Once you have it on email, that's your quote and now you have a chip you can then work other dealers.

I had several dealers tell me the same thing, that sites like these were not accurate yet they still gave me the quote I was asking for which I then used to leverage a few other dealers. What became more of an issue for me was that I had a hard time getting acceptable trade in value for my car so you may want to bring that TL to several Acura and non-Acura dealerships to get the approximate trade in value (KBB is virtually no help btw.) and ideally on paper too. Depending on how old the vehicle is, they may wholesale it or sell it on the lot, you'll get the best price for it typically if they are selling it on the lot, at least it certainly did for me. The 4 dealers that were planning on wholesaling my 2006 S40 were only going to give me 8-10k for it (which btw, was 4-5k less than KBB at good condition when I thought mine was excellent) but where I ended up getting my MDX, they were planning on selling it there and gave me 12k which by the time I bought the MDX was actual KBB.

Work the MDX and the trade in separately unless you know the NET you are ok with (Your desired selling price of the MDX minus your desired trade in value of the TL). Here in California we don't have sales tax breaks for trade-in (at least I don't think we do!) so its a relatively easy calculation but if you live in a state where you do, that should be factored in. Good luck!

Dealer will say what they have to...take it with a big grain of salt...also take the postings here with a "small pinch" of salt.

Lot depends on the dealers overhead, presence of other direct competitors (other Acura Dealers) and indirect competitors (Infiniti, Audi, etc).

Having said that back in sept I bought 08 MDX with tech and power tailgate for 35746 + TTL (38.8K OTD).
I test drove the car couple of times at the local dealer in in San Diego, CA. When I was ready to buy the car I sent emails from the dealers website to all dealers within 200 miles.

Acura of mission Vejio (70 miles) came back with the above quote. I contacted local dealer and told him that I am willing to give him 35746 + 500 = 36246 +TTL for all his time and for my time to not drive 70 miles each way.

After three days of thinking and back and forth bickering about prices local dealer said he cannot do it...

This is what probably happened...
1) Local dealer has very high overhead
2) San Diego has less competition compare to orange county & south LA
3) Large volume dealers are more willing to go into holdback.

After my deal was done my salesman did say that "ON PAPER" we lost money on this car...but you know it as well as I do that its not the case. The dealership has made money as they are paying for the showroom/salaries etc.

So may be your local dealer has high overheads etc.
Look at cars direct.com and if you are within 500 to 1000 of carsdirect price I will buy it....
