Replying to: whsu (Jul 08, 2008 10:33 pm) MSRP $44,960. Can I assume that $40,000 would be a fair price in LI/NYC area? This would be for cash...no lease or financing. ALSO, does anyone know..can the POWER tailgate also be operated MANUALLY?

I don't want the POWER tailgate to crash into the garage door (when open), or auto garage door opener track (when door is closed). The dealer has a really old one in my color (non PTG), but quite a few recent deliveries (with the PTG) in my color (Steel Blue).

Central NJ Area I bought a Beautiful Steel Blue w/ Tan Interior MDX Tech w/PTG. They wanted to start from MSRP and that just wasn’t going to happen so we started negotiating from the invoice price of 40,000. Had a rough time at the dealership and I had to leave and wait for them to come around. They offered me the deal I wanted; then tried to take it back when I agreed to it. I checked two dealers Open Road Acura, 38.500 - 2200, possibly 3300 KBB after they get a chance to look at it (phone deal) Ocean Acura, 40,000 - 5000 – retail value for my trade, so Ocean Acura got the deal (walkin) If you can’t get the dealer to drop below invoice; and you have a trade you can probably work “Up” the value on your trade to make up for the below invoice difference. In this area I found the next best thing for me to do was to play the dealers against each other. I couldn’t get any dealer near me to respond to the internet request I sent out and they wouldn’t give any quotes over the phone unless I called and gave them a deal to beat. With my new MDX I also get free oil changes for the life of the vehicle and of course I get a free MDX loaner if my vehicle needs to be repaired for any reason. So I wanted the closest dealer to me because they don’t all honor each other’s perks. Last but least; I love this car; words just can’t express how elated I am with this vehicle. Got to have the tech package, it works. You might have to take time out to read up on everything but once you do; it’s easy. Every morning I get traffic incidents before I turn on the highway. It seems to understand every thing I tell it to do without me repeating, even with the windows down or air going, so I’m real pleased with my purchase. Everything works great; and now that I have the vehicle, I’ve received nothing but excellent responses from the dealer.

There's not a way to stop the PTG mid-stream that I know of. Except for the moment right before it's completely open or completely closed, if the PTG hits an obstruction it will reverse motion. I don't know if you can hold it while it's moving.

Replying to: chandra0102 (Jul 11, 2008 7:18 am) Finally, I think I would prefer to go with the Honda .9% financing if theyll give it to me, is $1500 off invoice instead of $2500 a good goal? Do you think Id still be able to get free oil changes & inspections for life? Thanks!

Invoice minus incentive is a good starting point. at this point in time, if you hear a dealer advertising he has the biggest baddest selection and inventory, that's the jackpot; in my shopping, these are the guys who really need to get the cars off their lot and were really eager to deal. FYI, I like dealing with the guys on the phone or via email and settle on pricing before stepping into the dealership. #3. Options: ridiculously overpriced and i usually refrain from making them part of the negotiation. i do however use them as freebie negotiation items. i.e. i'm willing to pay $40K for my sport, i offer them $39,500, they come back with $39,800, i'd say add protection package and you have a deal, we shake hands. That being said, if you're not into installing these things yourself or know of any mechanic that will do this for a reasonable price, you may want to deal directly with the dealership. In my case, i wanted sport running boards, dealer offered to split the cost (mind you, it's dealership price $500 is MSRP, they charge $713 to include install) - i balked, took it out of the negotiation and purchased mine on Ebay for $439 minus 20% livedotcom cashback - installation, i'll do it myself with the help of a friend (no drilling only wrenches/screwdrivers). 4. bottomline, you'll get a great deal on an MDX today, just know exactly what you think is a fair price that you can live with. like i said, invoice minus incentive is, imho a fair price - you probably can do a few hundred dollars better but i don't think they're giving these cars away yet.

Side body molding On a side note.. wasnt that live.com-ebay cashback deal great? I bought $2100 worth of stuff (DSLR lens & flash, HD camcorder, Xbox 360 w/controllers & games) for like $1400 with 35% back. I wish I had known I was buying this car so I could have bought all these accessories with another account!
