I would be happy at 12. My wife's local driving is routinely at 11.6 mpg.

Totally absurd sitting in lines picking up kids a few blocks away.

I'm staying put. Drove the HL yeasterday...even the salesman when he saw my black Acura MDX commented...gee nice truck, all decked out.

Just for kicks I followed all the overly-abundant advice everyone seems to be dishing out this days, especially on the Today show...avoid quick starts, hard accelaration, use the cruise, yadda, yadda....and you know what...my MDX yielded 24.7 this last tank! 80% HWY!

So, I'm not going the HL route. I did not really like it when I drove it.

Thanks for your replies.

for what it's worth, my wife knows that if she comes home with less than 15 mpg there will be hell to pay. cuts down on her frivolous treks around the block or to get her nails done for the umpteenth time.

I picked up a new Base MDX 2008 today. Was this a fair price? I negotiated my best price with several dealers quickly- over the phone with each respective internet department. I went to the best priced dealer and signed paperwork when I arrived. Quick and painless. Waiting for car to be prepped was more taxing.

$35,095 Base model price, plus $499 doc prep fee, plus tax, tag, title...

thoughts? This is in Atlanta, GA area.

That would be $1500 below invoice which means it would be almost a no profit deal for that dealer.

Economy must be hurting for sure.

Anyone unlucky enough to buy an MDX on May 1st lost $2000.

Starting May 2nd and running through June 30th, there is $2000 cash to dealer support from Acura involved on all MDX models. So, purchasing at $1500 under invoice on May 2nd is the equivalent of buying at $500 over invoice, the day before!

The best time to go vehicle shopping is during a recession, provided one can spare time away from the bread line.

PS: The $2000 incentive does not apply to the capitalized cost of leasing an MDX.
Tough choice: I wanted to lease an MDX but that $2000 off involved in buying one is mighty tempting!

they offered me a 2k rebate OR discounted financing. i took the rebate- as that made more sense for me- and it was a purchase, not a lease.

Dropped financing from 4.9 to 2.9 after purchased - UGH by jhogan41

Bought a new MDX on Wednesday (4/31) at 4.9 for 60 months. Now I see that they dropped to 2.9. Is there anything I can do?? Am very frustrated - with dealer and myself... Know I should have waited. Actually changed length of loan because payment was high - now could have got the shorter term I wanted for a similar price. Any ideas? Calls into the dealer and waiting to hear back...

What about the poor soul who bought an MDX for $42,000 cash on May 1st only to helplessly watch someone else on May 2nd doing a deal on the exact same model MDX with the same salesman for only $40,000?

If one drives 10,000 miles in the first year, that $2000 savings will just about pay for the year's gas!
