Acura MDX, Car Buying, SUV

So now that the totally redesigned 2014 MDX has been revealed and is expected to hit dealers mid-2013, folks should start pressing dealers hard on pricing of the "old" 2012 and 2013 models.
I wouldn't be taking any deals for less than 18-20% MSRP (including dest).
They may complain to buyers about margins, but it should also cause them to lobby Acura about increased factory-to-dealer incentives to fix those margins. Supply and demand at work.

This is my first post, I've been lurking on here for a while because I would like to get an MDX.
I am from CT, and from everything that I'm reading, it seems like now is an excellent time to get involved on any 2012 or 2013 MDXs that are out there.
I'm nervous to go start negotiating, only because if I make an offer of let's say $36,500, or 17% off the MSRP of a 2012 MDX, will that even have a chance of being accepted? or does it depend on dealership, etc. Also, pastready2buy, when you say 18-20% off MSRP does that mean out the door?
If I could get it down to that price realistically for a 2012 MDX base, the monthly payments are very comfortable for us.
Just wanted your opinion before I go into this with really no experience.

... MSRP is $47850, 18 % off that would be $39237.

Not OTD - this would be excluding TT&L.
When I was in the market last fall, I received the following offers on 2012 MDXs w/ Tech Package (MSRP $46,705 + $895 destination = $47,600):
$39,075 + TT&L
$39,164 + TT&L
$39,289 + TT&L
$39,549 + TT&L
$39,683 + TT&L
$39,879 + TT&L
These offers came from the high volume dealers in large metro areas (Northen VA / DC, Dallas, Bay Area, Northern NJ / NYC).
Of course, I also received offers at $42,829 + TT&L who said any lower they would be "losing money" and that I was insane for thinking an MDX could be had in this price range. Those dealers where the ones who still have 2012 inventory today (the ones who were putting out good prices got rid of their 2012 stock months ago).
These numbers were all inclusive of destination ($895) and dealer/doc fees (ranging from $80-$399). Those figures translated to around 16-18% off MSRP including the $895 destination charge. These prices did not include my TT&L - which varies from buyer to buyer.
Given 2012 MDXs were easily selling for 18% off MSRP last fall, 2013 didn't bring any changes (they just changed the model year on the label), and the 2014s have been revealed making the 2012/13s the "old" model - I wouldn't buy a 2012-2013 MDX for less than 18-20% off MSRP.

I think around $36.5k + TT&L is doable on a 2012 with a high volume dealer, depending on your timing.
If you're in CT, maybe shoot an email Denville/Ramsey/Montclair in Northern NJ. May have to go with a 2013 depending on their stock. They'll obviously want a bit more for their 2013 models, my guess is upper $37k / lower $38k.
For patient buyers, I'd say prices will start to fall around April/May.

Yep. I think 2013s could eventually be had for around $39,300 (or less) by patient buyers. I predict prices on the 2013s to continue to fall over the next few months as redesigned 2014s get closer to the lots. Heck, they've been running incentives on 2013s nearly the same ($500 difference) than 2012s already...
#12530 of 12873 2012 MDX extended warranty, dent and resistall coverage questions
Jan 16, 2013 (2:12 am)
Hi, I'm new to the forums and had a few questions I was hoping to get answered. I purchased a 2012 MDX in Texas about three months ago and bought the extended warranty from the dealer, a 7yr/100k for ~$2600, along with dent coverage for $800 and resistall protection $870. After getting a good deal on the MDX (over 5k below MSRP) these additional purchases seemed to make sense but I'm having buyer's remorse now. Also after seeing some of the prices others have posted for warranties I'm sure I over paid.
I'm wondering if any one has any experience with the resistall pricing and the dent coverage as well. Looking back I think I overpaid on these as well, although at the time of purchase I was assured by the financing department that I was getting these packages for about $50 above cost. Is the warranty price too high and should I/can I return it? Any limitations on the resitall or dent coverage that any one has had experience with? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It seems you paid about $4,300 for insurance against some repairs, dings and environmental damage. I am sure the dealer considers this deal, with these three F&I products on the back end, a home run.
There is no way the prices charged by the dealer were $50 over cost. Really, $800 for ding protection and $870 for damage caused by the environement?
Hopefully, the extended service contract (it is not a warranty) was provided by Acura and not some third party.
Thankfully, all these "products" can be cancelled. The smart thing to do.

so as I understand, the MSRP on a 2012 MDX base is 43,815, plus the destination charge puts me at 44,710. If I offered 36,500 excluding ttl, and it's accepted, what I'm still confused about is, what would the ttl total? in CT, is it dfferent from everywhere else? I realize I pay tax per month (inculded in the monthly payment), but what about sales tax when I buy it? and title and license fees? could you answer with maybe an example using the 36,500? I SINCERELY appreciate it.

Hey thanks for the reply, I appreciate the feedback.
Any one with an opinion on a fair price for these packages?
I am going to back to the Acura finance department today and try to renegotiate these deals to something reasonable. If not then I think I'll just cancel everything and take my losses. They said at the time of purchase that these extended overages would be prorated if canceled, and I'm assuming it will be done so on a monthly basis but you never know with these car companies.
