I have a 2001 model MDX and have been less than thrilled with the purchase myself. I bought it used with 80K miles on it and within 2K miles, had to replace the transmission. Acura Corp helped with 1/2 of the cost, which I thought was fair. I was only out $1800.

Then the Engine Mounts broke, $900 repair.

Then the buttons on the overhead light broke. $300 unit replacement.

Now the driver door won't open, even though it's unlocked. Neither the interior nor exterior handle will get it to work so I have to climb in & out of the passenger door. Looks like my "accentuator" might be out too. I saw a Google posting on the same problem and in that case, the dealer couldn't fix it so he sent it to a body shop to have the door sawed off and the entire handle assembly replaced.

The MDX is a nice ride but the headaches aren't worth it. My other car give me much fewer problems and guess what... it's American made.

Reliable Repair Shop for Acura MDX in Plano/Richardson/Allen TX area by un_sidiq

Hi
I am looking for a reliable shop/mechanic(preferably Acura Certified) to work on MDX, someone i know who took his MDX for the 15000 miles service and was given a estimate of $900, i was wondering if someone knows of a place in Plano/Richardson/Allen TX area ? Also for the oil change do the quick lube shops use the "crush washer" that the dealership puts so much stress on when doing oil change ?
Thanks

In the past, I have used Danny's Import Service. (He did my 30,000 and 45,000 service for my 02 MDX). It is a little farther away than you are looking - but he does great work. He is in Lewisville (121/35 area). www.dannysimport.com.

Differential oil change by barb36jack31

The dealer says that the differential oil must be changed every 15000 miles. The manual says that if you drive a lot at slow speeds in the mountains or tow a trailer, change the diff.oil at 7500 mi and at 15000 mi. intervals after that. It makes no mention of how often to change the diff.oil if you drive normally with no special loads being placed on the car.

Comments please.

Anyone have any issues with windshield? Got a slight ding within first few weeks. Now in a different and unrelated area it cracked. Told it was a tiny pebble by glazier. Never had this happen with any other car and realize it could just be bad luck. Getting it replaced tomorrow. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem with our '07 MDX. I bought the car back in May '07 and the radio channels intermittently reset to 87.7 on FM1 and FM2. (I don't use AM, but I'm sure they get reset too.) When this happened 6 plus times, I brought the MDX into the dealer in mid February '08 and they could not replicate the problem. They said that Acura HQ is aware of the problem and even quoted a T-Line reference #2555821. The dealer said that in a month or two, they should have a fix.

It is 3 months and the radio channels have preset 4 times. It is extremely annoying. I called the dealer to inquire about the fix and they now tell me that it may take upwards of 6 months to diagnose the problem. I think this sounds way too long.

Is there some law as to how long they can take in finding a solution? Also, does anyone have access to the Acura T-Line and look up that reference number?

Thanks.

I took the MDX in for service and believe it or not the radio lights actually went out when the Shop Foreman was testing driving it. I can’t tell you how happy I was that finally the dealer was able to replicate the problem. The service advisor said that the radio lights were going out due to a bad relay, and it was replaced. It has been 2-weeks and so far the radio lights have not gone out again.

However, I am still loosing my radio presets AM & FM and all sound settings (bass, treble, subwoofer etc) default back to center (“C”). The service department has been great but is puzzled. Now they think it may be a problem with the remotes because most of the time when we lose the radio settings it is when switching between the Driver 1 & 2 remotes.

For example, I will use my remote all weekend without a problem. Come Monday morning my wife will use her remote (#1) and all settings will reset. When I go to use my remote (#2) again later in the week (Thurs, Fri) 9 out of 10 times all settings will reset again. This process repeats itself over and over.

I think I may “unlink” the remotes to the MDX and only use the memory buttons on the drivers door for a while to see what happens. My thinking is if all presets stay to what I set them to in the memory 1 & 2 presets then it’s the remotes. If all settings reset even though the remotes are not linked then who knows.

I am going to mention the Acura T-Line reference #255821 to my service department to see if this helps.

Good Luck!

Very Hot inside center console by hotch41

Just picked up my 2008 MDX Sport w/Power Tailgate this past Saturday. I've been experiencing an odd problem with my center console and wanted to see if anyone else had this happen to them. I've opened the center console door after driving for a while and when I went to grab something out of it, it was extremely hot inside. This morning it was cool (the inside of the console) when I drove to work and by the time I arrived, it was getting hot again. I already called my salesman and he asked the service guy if there was a technical/service bulletin with this and they said there wasn't. Don't ask me how I find these things/problems...maybe some people don't care about something like this, but since it's a $47K Acura, they better find a way to fix it. There's no reason for this.....agreed? Any feedback/comments would be appreciated. Thank you all.

I've seen this issue here before, but I can't find it on a discussion search. The heat and a/c ducts run underneath the center console. Do you use the rear hvac controls? Try turning off the rear controls altogether. Mine does the same thing.
