This could be in part because it's been built for a while and the kinks have been worked out. I'd stay away from the new generation 09 TL for at least a couple of years - First year vehicles have issues!   In my opinion the 08 TL Type S is just a much better put together machine than the new generation MDX. Note I said the "new generation". We have an 05 MDX and it has been bullet proof. The new MDX while technologically more advanced than the previous version, is just not put together well and plagued with a plethora of issues some of which I consider major ones. From looking through this forum I think a lot of other owners would agree. Too bad, this SUV has potential but Acura corporate needs to get its act together and listen to their customers instead of being so arrogant and condensing. Replying to: vaughn4 (Apr 30, 2008 3:28 pm) Reliability on the new MDX is very good as rated by consumer reports and others. It sounds like you got a lemon. Also you demonstrate why I never buy a new model the 1st year it is out. All the bugs aren't worked out yet.

just bought a new MDX Sport. Next day, the airbag message came on. Took it to the dealer and he diagnosed a faulty airbag seatbelt sensor. He said car was safe to drive. Nine days later he got the part in. He replaced it in a 90 minute service. So I am driving home (a 40 mile trip) and light comes back on. Next day I called dealer yelling and screaming- he brings me a loaner. Two days later, returns my car and now we are waiting to see if everything is OK. Anybody else with airbag warning lights?

I bought it used with 80K miles on it and within 2K miles, had to replace the transmission. Acura Corp helped with 1/2 of the cost, which I thought was fair. I was only out $1800.   Then the Engine Mounts broke, $900 repair.   Then the buttons on the overhead light broke. $300 unit replacement.   Now the driver door won't open, even though it's unlocked. Neither the interior nor exterior handle will get it to work so I have to climb in & out of the passenger door. Looks like my "accentuator" might be out too. I saw a Google posting on the same problem and in that case, the dealer couldn't fix it so he sent it to a body shop to have the door sawed off and the entire handle assembly replaced.   The MDX is a nice ride but the headaches aren't worth it. My other car give me much fewer problems and guess what... it's American made.
