My experience at Passport was fair--nothing special. I actually live five minutes from JBA, but they didn't have the loaded model I was looking for at the time. (They did locate on up in New Jersey and offered to drive--not flatbed, but drive--it down, which I declined.) Passport gave me their "best, final" offer on the phone one day ("any lower and we won't make any profit on it!"), but when I let them know (no bluff) that JBA beat their offer by $300, they were able to miraculously meet it.

Down payment for 0% financing?

Hi all,
I am thinking about purchasing a 2009 Journey sedan with Premium pkg. I will probably take advantage of the 0% financing. I noticed on the Infiniti website that it says a down payment MAY be required. I would appreciate any feedback as to what I might expect. Thanks.

Mannix77 - Thanks for your response and the link. The invoice price is ~$37,800 and most dealers are willing to give this price but after the cashback. Calculating for our situation, the cash back and financing works out the same - so I'm wondering if this is as good as its going to get? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the cash back vs financing? Anyone purchased a new 2009 G37x with Pre/Nav package at lower than invoice? Any advice would be helpful in making a decision. Anyone tried out the Tech Package? Is it worth it?

sewellgsm, do VPP customers pay doc fees? If so, are they negotiable?

Doc fees are negotiable for everyone - it is just a way dealers make their profits. I've been saying all along - the dealer has to make some money somewhere - so they just shift it around and it makes the customer feel better.
As a consumer, you feel great if you buy the car at invoice instead of $800 over invoice, but then you pay a $895 doc fee instead of $95 - you end up paying the same amount and wasted a bunch of your time to get to the same point.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.

sewellgsm, I have to disagree with you. Most doc fees are NOT negotiable. You can try to negotiate the price further down to compensate for a high doc fee but every dealer I spoke said they could not change it. The doc fees are pre-printed on the dealer paper work so it can't be changed. When I was shopping for my G37x, I ended up getting my car from a NY dealer because NY has laws limited the doc fee to $45 or something like. All the dealers I spoke to in NJ and CT had doc fees of at least $250 and if my memory serves me correctly, some were as high as $350.

I've worked at the dealership, in Texas, for 13 years. We pre-print the doc fee on our buyers orders too. (Looks very official that way) We also will not negotiate the doc fee (as our company policy - not the law). The small print on our buyers order reads: "A Documentary fee is not an official fee. A documentary fee is not required by law, but may be charged to a buyers for handling documents and performing services relating to the closing of a sale. This notice is required by law." Now this is in the state of Texas, I'm not an expert on every state. By the way, we charged $50 for ever, but are going to $149 starting next month. It takes about that much to cover the cost of the title clerks who process the paperwork.
There are cost involved is selling a car, if the dealer isn't making some money to cover those cost - they will eventually go under - note the empty buildings in your city.
If your getting a G for a few hundred over invoice minus the dealer cash or special financing - you are getting a fair deal. Feel good about the trade and financing package - those are just as important.

Q 1: is it possible to get the 2500 dealer incentive and take credit union financing or is standard dealer financing required? YEs I did this.
Am considering taking Infiniti Financing (1.9 60mo, etc.), which, I believe, means the $2500 dealer incentive is off the table. Is that correct? CORRECT.
Work the dealers. Try to get other dealers involved to get the price down.
What is invoice on the vehicle? focus on that not the other stuff. Tax is tax.

The offer is only good for new cars purchased between August and Nov of 2009.
I still have my code, so if there are any new owners out there we can pair up and you'll get a $500 AMEX gift card.

The fee price people quoting on this site include Doc fees for the most part. So when you are trying to compare what people got and what you got, you need to compare apples to apples.
The dealer I bought the car from is "trained" to add doc fee after the fact. I had mine in writing and so he had to honor it (he did try to add the doc fee) or I would have walked out and never go back to him, no matter what price, because its the principal.
