Glad you found a good deal in NY. If you find an honest dealership your fees could be lower. The sales consultant at my local dealership appears to be honest (to a certain degree). When I asked him why there was a difference between the total invoice shown on Edmunds vs his total invoice price, he told me there was $250 advertising fee added on his quote. This is padding to me.

Please pay attention to the following small items:
1) Doc fee: It varies from $99 (I saw some time ago from other postings) to $400. You can consider it as padding if the doc fee is high. No matter what happens you cannot save this fee if you buy or lease the car. He quoted $249 as doc fee.

2) Reg fee: It varies from state to state. In NJ a new registration is for 4 years and I think $334 is about right. If you have a trade in and elect to keep the same plate the reg fee should be substantially lower.

3) Tire & misc fees are too small to worry about.

Additionally, the sales tax is different from state to state as well. In NJ the tax is 7% but I think NY City has a higher rate while Upstate NY's rate is lower.

Hope this info helps. Happy car shopping!

I'm planning to do my own financing that means I'm paying the dealer cash. Is 31k including taxes, license, etc. and should I negotiate for more since I'm paying cash?

Just paid $29,702 cash for a Blue Slate 2008 Journey with Premium Package in Atlanta. That price includes dealer doc fee as well. Only thing not included in that price is 7% sales tax and $65 title fee.

Anh3,

Sounds like a good deal on the G37. Could you give me more information?

1. Is it the automatic or manual?
2. Does that $36200 include sales tax?
3. What city and dealership did you buy it?
4. Was it a demo?

Thanks.

From one source I learned today that the G37s are now being held back to December maybe the end of December. Also, that each dealership was getting only one G37 sedan.
Other sources confirm the one G37 sedan per dealership. One salesperson said they were getting one sedan and one coupe. Looks like there will not be a rush to sell out of G35s. Sales person said that it is good for G35 owners in that massive discounting lowers car values. Food for thought. All of which leads me to the second thing I learned. When negotiating a deal the seller said "we do not sell below invoice and that is invoice plus $200". I said that is way too high to be invoice. The seller said yes it is, check Edmunds for invoice info. My response, I am looking at Edmunds and your "invoice" is exactly $500 over the Edmunds invoice. Side comment = looks like invoice padding. Guess they can make any invoice whatever they want. Sellers offer was $700 over Edmund invoice. Good luck to all on your excellent deals

Are you sure your quote is right? Invoice is $37,107 and you are getting a cash price of $31,795, thats $5,312 under invoice! I would be all over that.

I was offered $30,500 as a cash price, do you think that's the best I'll get?

My friend pointed out that Edmunds can be HIGHER than the actual dealer invoice depending on when the car was shipped ... I think there was an mid model year increase in price for the 2008s, my G35 invoice is several hundred dollars lower than what Edmunds shows ...

I am a frustrated buyer. Made a bid a month or so ago on an early production, read lower priced, version of the same model. Price and invoice was lower than the later production model. Seems like in my memory the difference was over a $1000 with optionss. Made my offer based on the price and invoice of the car. The salesman bought in and then the sales manager called me to inform me that the car could not be sold using that invoice price. He insisted that the invoice for that car was at the level of the later model invoice. When I said that reduced his profit spread because it moved the invoice closer to msrp, actually much more than provided with the late model. According to Edmunds the invoice was more than $2,000 less than msrp. Using the late model invoice and the early model msrp the spread was around $1,000. He just blew that off insisting that it happens all the time and he could show me the actual invoice for the car and that it was the late model invoice not a lower earlier model invoice. Again they can make up an invoice to justify whatever they want.
