There is no reason to pay anything over invoice minus conquest. You do have the option of the .9% financing or the $2,000 rebate as well. I called several dealerships before I bought mine this past week and they all said they would sell for invoice.

Thanks for the input. So if invoice is $33,500 in my case, I should be shooting for $32,500 (invoice - conquest cash), right? Sounds good to me. I guess I'll find out tomorrow if the dealer will hold out on me due to the scarcity of manual transmission G35s in TX.

From the posts on this forum and my experience, Infiniti dealers have been dealing at or below invoice for quite some time now.

A manual transmission G35 may be scarce, and there's a reason, most buyers opt for the auto tranny.

Stick with your offer of invoice minus the rebate. Extend your search further to locate the vehicle you want.

I know most buyers opt for a auto, but is there more to it than that? I've read a few less than glowing reviews about the G35 manual tranny, but the 2008 version which I drove seemed fine to me. May be not as buttery smooth as a 335i, but BMW's gotta have some reason to charge $9k+ more for a 335i, right?

That's funny. A couple of years ago I was shopping for the same car in Austin and got the same story- only 2 manual tranny sedans in all of Texas. The Austin dealer was willing to have one shipped in, but they were going to stick me with all of the "BS" from the original dealer (lojack, paint sealant and I forget what else). I decided to pass, and ended up with a MazdaSpeed6 instead.

Interesting. Are you happy with your selection of the Mazdaspeed 6? I ask because one of the other cars I've considered and test driven is a Mazdaspeed 3 (which I think has the same turbo-4 cranking out 265 horses as your Mazdaspeed 6). I know it's in a different class than the G35, but the below $25k price caught my eye.

And I can't say I'm surprised about the lack of manual transmissions here in Texas. Most people I've talked to think they are a pain in the rear, and consider me a weirdo for preferring to drive one. Oh well.

Overall I'm pretty happy. I've had it nearly 2 years and 22K miles, no mechanical problems. The MS6 is AWD, but yeah it's the same engine as the MS3, and the turbo is a hoot to drive. What I'm not impressed with is the paint (very easy to chip), the sheetmetal is thin (very easy to ding), etc. I would give the edge to Infiniti on quality of materials.

dfwhonda:

Here in the Chicagoland area there is only one 6MT available...it was in liquid platinum, had prem/nav/tech and spoiler (personally, not a fan of the sedan spoiler). The dealer was offering it to me for $250 over invoice (which I would have taken, had I not bought a g35 journey prem/sport a day earlier).

Here's the breakdown:

MSRP - $40,115
Invoice - $36,591
Sell Price - $36,841

Moral of the story...I think you can do better on the deal that you're being offered.

Here's a g35driver.com forum discussion that addresses the 6MT for 2008. Also, I remember reading an article where they were basically stating that Infiniti had finally gotten the manual tranny right on the G35 in 2008.

Good luck!

PK1, thanks for the info. I'm still in the process of negotiating with the dealer, and for all I know the car may get sold before I get my act together. Thanks also for the link to the '08 manual tranny reviews. I recall reading the same thing about the '08 upgrade, and I didn't have a problem driving it after one or two starts. Quite enjoyable, actually.

I'm looking into a 2007 Certified G35 Premium & Sports Pkg which includes cargo net, premium wheels, navigation and low mileage. What price target do you think I should settle on? How much should I pay for the certification?
