If I wanted FWD I would have picked up a MINI Cooper S. More fun to drive than a TL / TSX, a heck of lot cheaper, and much better gas mileage. Gobs and gobs of torque steer though. They were getting easier to find and you could score $500 or more off MSRP earlier this year, but once gas hit $3.75 and $4 a gallon you can forget about any discount or even finding a new one to buy or lease.

You point was if you accept what you would think of as a lesser car just to save some money where to do you draw the line? That is always the choice, isn't it? Is car x worth $yyy more than car z? If you just want transportation you can do it for less. Once you have driven and appreciate the RWD (or AWD) driving dynamic FWD is just "wrong" to me. No way would *I* pay all that much for a FWD car, just go get an Accord, MINI or Mazdaspeed 3 or something and save the money. But that is *ME*. Most folks probably don't drive the way I do or care as much - maybe they don't mind FWD since they is all they know or they only have 1 car to drive and live where it snows.

Test drive them both, preferably with no salesperson in the car and see what you think. I did, and the Cooper S (with works stuff on it) and lots of other cars before I decided on a G for *ME*. You have to do what makes you happy both behind the wheel but also in the wallet .

The bottom line is YOU make all the payments, I am not making any of them (and no one else here is either) so you have to do what makes you happy .

Just be sure you get a good deal on whatever you decide to get.....

We looked at the TL & TLS before getting our 07 G, I really like the interior room and the whole interior layout but the car is a bit dated (at least the platform) and I MUCH preferreed the Gs performance and overall "fun factor". The fact that the G is a newer design and has a bad a$$ motor made the decision easy for us. But they're both nice rides, but not that compareable from a performance standpoint IMO.

I thought about the TL, briefly.

TL offer is invoice - 2500 + $300 ad fees + 188 tint = 30,038
51% residual / .00133 MF
Lease payment $460 (first, doc, tags down)

G35 offer is invoice + 500 profit + 100 tint - 500 loyalty = 33,261
58% residual / .00134 MF
Lease payment $465 (first, doc, tags down)

Not a tough call to eliminate TL from my list with this comparison.

Most of not all the posters here including myself test drove all these vehicles. We picked up our G35XS in Jan and considered.. well, the TL, IS250awd, BMW 3er, Audi A4...EX, RDX, MDX, CRV, RX350...list goes on. It's the wife's car... we were really down to the G, IS, and EX. She just came out of an Audi A4 lease so a repeat wasn't going to happen and she hates BMWs.

Anyway, the G does offer a nice package for the money, my only grip is the interior in not on par with Lexus and Audi.

Other than that, this is a car I would have considered keeping after the three year term is up, but the G37 sedan and/or a rumored G37 coupe, AWD, hard top convertible will kill those dreams

If you have the time to wait it out and are strongly considering the Acura, why not wait the a few months and get the new model TL?

the primary reason the acura is being considered is due to the current $2,500 incentive. thus it can be had for about 2,500 below invoice.

as i pointed out earlier: for me, the g35x / 3 6 months / 12k miles, mf .00167, residual 59%, long story short the payment is around $487 (assumes invoice +500).

the TL w/nav would be $453 / mo. Fuel costs only about 8% lower w/the TL so just about negligible.

put the fuel difference plus the montly payment difference together and we are up to a 15% difference. not necessarily a slam dunk.

I just purchased a new 2008 Infiniti G35 Journey with premium pkg, nav, sport, splash guards and tint from Mission Veijo, Ca. for $33,707 including destination charge. Tax, license and options such as LoJack were extra. Great experience. This did include a $2000 dealer cash incentive for cash deals that was in effect July 28, 2008.

I'm looking forward to the new G37 with 7 speed auto transmission. I wonder what MPG's that new G will get...

If it comes down to this and you don't see the added value of the G, then your choice is easy.

Alot of folks would feel the 15% premium for AWD and better performance is the way to go. But that certainly doesn't have to be YOUR feeling, as well.
