I live in Florida but wanted a x model since my family all live north. Besides, the rain here in FL makes the x a much more stable car on rain slick roads. I purchased my Infiniti G35x on March 31 '08. With only one dealer in the county (Infiniti of Melbourne) it was a bit tough. But since I was willing to purchase a similar car from a dealer in Louisville, KY (Sam Swope Infiniti -- great selection!) they finally came very close to what I would pay. Here was the bottom line: G35x Premium package Leather Navigation Rosewood trim Cargo Net Color Matched Mud Flaps Trunk Mat Destination Tax, Title, Tag (6% sales tax) Out the door total $38,609. Plus they shipped it in from North Carolina at no additional charge. I'm not sure it was the best deal but I was very satisfied with the process. |

Have you ever heard anyone ever say they did not like their Honda? I bet not. But both of us agree the RWD experience of the G35x (AWD) is much more rewarding than the FWD of the TL. The G35x is quicker and handles like a dream. There are a couple things I like better about the TL (larger trunk) but there are more features I love in my G35x that he does not have in his top of the line '08 TL -- like the hard disk recorder and the navigation birdseye view. As for the gas mileage I would suggest you do the math. On 15k miles per year ($4/gallon regular) you are talking less than $18/week including an uptick for premium (supposedly required in the Infiniti). Over 5 years, that's less than $4300. As it turns out, my neighbor paid almost the same amount more for his TL than I did for the G35x. To me, the additional fuel cost just isn't worth it. If it's overall economy you are concerned about, the TL is the way to go. But I'm not. The performance of the G35 is well worth any additional fuel costs. As an fyi, Acura will have a new model out in '09 (September) so you may be able to get a great deal near the end of the '08 model year. I have heard the '09 TL will come standard with the Type S engine of '08 and they will be offering an AWD version. So if it's a deal you're after, I would suggest you wait until late August and see what's out there. They make up your mind on either car. I don't think you can make a bad decision with either car. |

As I said I love the looks of the TL and the reliability but it can't escape its FWD issues nor lack of excitement when driving it. If you want to compare dissimilar cars, then why not throw in the smartfor2 or the Kia Rio? Either one would get you around town, cost you $12k or so to OWN - not lease, and get lots better mileage than the TL. You would have enough money left over to buy a plasma for every room in the house along with matching HD Tivo DVRs. Dennis

Water leaks from windshield and sunroof, fragile wheel disks, lamps in dashboard replaced almost every year. After 3 years I dumped that junk. It was my first and last honda. My GM and BMW cars had 0 issues so far.

Replying to: ingvar (Aug 04, 2008 10:10 am) Just dumped my Accord 9 months before lease end because I couldn't stand driving it anymore. My G35X is WORLD'S superior from a "driver's" standpoint. I could give 2 checkboxes to the Accord over the G, and that's gas mileage and rear seat room. Although the rear seat thing is kind iffy because it made for a larger vehicle, and I've decided that's not necessarily a good thing. |

Replying to: dwynne (Aug 04, 2008 9:59 am) i don't agree w/the apples to oranges argument though, these 2 cars are priced fairly similar and they are in the same category of upscale mid-sized / entry level luxury sedan. they wouldn't get compared by the auto rags all the time if they weren't fairly similar. you won't see car & driver comparing a kia with an acura. i hear you on the FWD and AWD to some degree however. what about your g...do you still think it would be fun / worth it in city driving? i don't live in the 'burbs; my commute is 13-miles round trip.

That is always the choice, isn't it? Is car x worth $yyy more than car z? If you just want transportation you can do it for less. Once you have driven and appreciate the RWD (or AWD) driving dynamic FWD is just "wrong" to me. No way would *I* pay all that much for a FWD car, just go get an Accord, MINI or Mazdaspeed 3 or something and save the money. But that is *ME*. Most folks probably don't drive the way I do or care as much - maybe they don't mind FWD since they is all they know or they only have 1 car to drive and live where it snows. Test drive them both, preferably with no salesperson in the car and see what you think. I did, and the Cooper S (with works stuff on it) and lots of other cars before I decided on a G for *ME*. You have to do what makes you happy both behind the wheel but also in the wallet Dennis
