MY NEW INFINITI G35 by nealdrucker

As of yesterday morning, I am now a member of the G team.. I picked up my Infiniti G35 Journey sedan, Platinum Graphite, Stone interior, prem, nav, splash guards, and cargo net. Had a great buying experience at Nalley Infiniti, Marietta, Ga. Did all transactions via e-mail and received the following deal:

MSRP $38,330
INVOICE $35,010
SELLING PRICE $34,000
WALK OUT PRICE $36,660

I'm pretty happy in getting this vehicle for $4,330 below MSRP. The only downside was that I had to wait three weeks for it to arrive from the holding lot at the Port of Jacksonville. Worth the wait: low miles,8, never been test driven, and not on a dealers lot for months.

Drove my G37 home today. Love it already. Even the wife who was not sure to beging with already is asking for her key fob! Paid $350 over invoice so I am happy about that as well.

Purchase was at the Dayton dealership. The sales experience left a horrible taste in my mouth. It took 7 days to get the car sent over from Chicago, about a 5-6 hour trip. I was told 4 times I could pick the car up the next day and it wasn't there. Excuse after excuse that didn't add up. And the worst part about the whole thing was I waited and waited every day for them to call and tell me when it was going to be in and they never called. I had to call before they closed and they said we'll call you tomorrow morning at a time-no call the entire day!!! Nice people but not great at customer service. Hopefully the service department is better!!

Anyway, love the car. Thanks for all the posts. Every bit was helpful.

Just bought my 2008 G35J with premium package, no Nav. Paid $31,700 and out the door for $34,500 in Mission Viejo, CA. I got the platinum graphite with black interior. I hope i did ok with the price. I test drove and got too excited and lost my negotiation patience and came home with it. Luv the ride Luv the kick it has and very happy with the car.

Purchased an 08 Journey sedan...premium pkg. Stickered for 36120..paid OTD 33649. Decent deal, but I think what may have hurt me is that my area was seriously pounded by a hailstorm last April...and the only dealer in my area has a a large inventory of hail damaged G's that wont move. Im not talking about a few dings here and there...these cars are beat up...$3000-$5000 worth of damage to all the cars that were hit. Needless to say, I opted for a "fresh" inventory vehicle that they didnt have many of. IOW- no hailstorm would have resulted in much larger inventory of vehicles that imo, would have netted me a better price. Im happy nonetheless.

I just got a G35x AWD, Nav, Premium, Wood for 35900 (freight included) and the 1000 conquest cash after tax (so not quite 34900). Mid 37s or something OTD, I forget exactly. Put 3500 down and my 60 month payments are 612. Financed at lease prices! Will pay it off early of course, but at 2.9% I couldn't resist.

The invoice for the car if the dealer had no holdback is around 36600. Even with the 1000 conquest (which really turns out to be 700-800), I have no idea how this made sense for the dealer. Even if it was pre-price increase, it is below invoice. Dealer fee was only 100. Car had like 70 miles on it so I guess it was test driven quite a bit but it's new and not a loaner.

Anyways, the dealer I worked with was excellent and laid back. Very pleased with the experience. Thanks everyone for all of the input on the forum. It was very helpful.

Congrats on the new car, what colors did you get?

Not really. You got a nice deal, but if you had leased for 24, 36, or 39 months your payments would be a lot lower than $612 - probably near half of that with $3,500 up front. You got a good deal in any case, but comparing a 60 months financed car payment to a lease payment that is a lot smaller is not a very valid comparison.

Thanks. I got black on black. Splash guards and cargo net too but I haven't seen a G35x without those. Gas mileage isn't the greatest but we can afford it...for now...ha ha.

My wife is going to get a car too. I am trying to negotiate a lease for an IS250AWD (she likes the look, whatever). We are moving to a place with inclement winters, and the heated side mirrors were a plus on the G.

Yeah, I know lease prices are cheaper than 3500 down and 612 a month, but we felt like buying one and leasing one (so we have something to use as downpay next time we "invest" in depreciating assets). Even if I pay it off early, the math is in my favor later on, no question. I guess the key is to get something with high residual? I do think it may be a valid comparison to a lease, b/c after a 36mo lease is over, you still have to pay for something to drive and have nothing to show for it.

I thought of getting a BMW 3 series but the interior is about as up to date as a nursing home. It does drive better than the G.

I would recommend buying the consumer reports new car buying kit. It was tremendously helpful. Edmunds is a bit more up to date, they are a bit more thorough. I juxtaposed the two websites to no end, but it finally paid off.

Anyways, good luck all.

Living in WI but working a few Chicago area dealers. Here's what they offered for a G35x, Premium w/ Nav.

MSRP 39475
Invoice 36239
Sell 35975

Lease would be 60% residual and .00230 money factor.

Do you think I can get them down on the sell? So far we've done everything over email & phone. Thanks!
