In most states if you are not a resident then you have to pay no taxes to the purchasing state. So if you live in OK then you can go get a TX car w/o paying tax, but it will be due in OK. I think OK and TX both normally tax the entire car on a lease, so unless you want to move you may be hosed and have to pay the taxes.

Congrats on the new car! What colors did you get?

In the future, I would not set foot onto the dealer's lot until I had all the numbers worked out. Work with the "Internet sales" folks at several dealerships and get the best prices, get the lease buy rate, and get it all worked out. Then you just come in, test drive, sign papers, and drive out.

I got the platinum graphite with stone interior. I know I should have shopped around a little more, but I am one of those people who wants instant gratification. I did haggle with them over the phone before I went in to the dealership. Armed with the info I got from this forum, they knew I was an informed buyer before I walked in. In fact, the sales guy jokingly (but probably a little serious) told my wife "I want to talk to you, not your husband."

The tax incentive is a really good deal. Three years ago when I leased my first G35, I paid over $3k in TTL and first payment. This time, I only had to pay the first payment (which they forgot to collect).

Dennis,

thx again for the countless replies.

from what i can tell, tx and OK tax the exact same way, HOWEVER, i don't think OK has the tax incentive program through IFS. i was told by the dealer(tx) that if i bought it there, titled it there, then "moved addresses" at some point. infiniti would come after me for that incentive money??? can anyone verify this?

also, another question Dennis as i'm getting things confused. could you please clarify with me again if the "fair price" of $500 over invoice should also include the acq fee of $595 or is it separate? or is it just carsdirect.com's invoice price,+ destination + any dealer fee's should =no more than $500 over invoice? you also mentioned some dealers have advertising fee's like in tx. should i allow that in negotiations, or ignore? know what i'm saying?

right now my stated invoice on carsdirect remains $34,655, the dealer in texas has countered with my $35,000 offer to them with $35,328 + TTL and 1st/mo pymnt.

as you've told me, i'm doing exactly what you've said. so i'm working the price first, BEFORE talking finance. i did allow them to run my credit as i feel i'm getting close to striking the deal.

thoughts? comments? suggestions?

P.S. for the love of god, lets hope Dennis isn't in fact infiniti's mastermind corporate finance guru who is paid to sit in here full time and orchestrate deals.....lol!! to be honest, if i were a salesman, i'd work these darn message boards dang it! alright now, raise your hand and come out where ever you are salespeople!!!

I would say the car with destination and dealer fee should be $500 over invoice (including dest) or less. As long as there is no customer cash or dealer incentive this is a fair price. If you lease, you have to add the $595 bank fee on top of that or pay it at lease signing.

Pricing Check G35x - Opinions needed by firish

I am planning to buy a G35x with Navigation, premium package, sport package, splash guards, and cargo net.

the price being offered from 1 dealer is 37700.00 which is about 455 more than invoice but also includes added options wheel locks, Nitro filled tires, all season mats, and door edge guards. Dealer says the MSRP for these is about 1000.

I am soliciting other offers from other dealers but wanted to check what the opinion is on this forum for this price offer.
Also, are there any hidden costs that I need to worry about when I go through their financing (2.9% over 5 yrs). And are there any Tax incentives that I can get? it has been a while since I last purchased a new car so are there any other gimmicks to worry about besides taxes where the dealer may charge me cost that they are not sharing with me right now (like processing fee, registration etc.)

As a tax incentive, you can right off the tax at the end of the year. I got the same model w/options. I paid 36900 with the remote starter included in price. with 2.9% for 60 months. Additional charges besides tax would be license fee. Don't get pushed into a extended warranty. If you decide you want one, you have until your factory warranty expires to get it. So you have 4 years to make your mind up.

Dennis,

Thanks for your earlier reply about buying now or waiting.

Looks like I'll be buying now. It's been 10 years since I've bought a new car. I've been reviewing this thread trying to figure out what is a good deal. Let me know if I have this right. A good deal looks like this:

Invoice price + $500 or less (includes destination charge & any other dealer fees)
                   + Tax
                   + Title ?
                   + Liscense ?
                   = My out of pocket

Also I looked for the post talking a about a tax incentive for people who live in TX & couldn't find it. Does that only apply to leasing? If not, what is it & how do I go about getting it?

Thanks for your help.

Hi All,

1) Can anyone enlighten me on the correct way to calculate the dealer holback
amount on Infiniti vehicles. I have info that says 1% of the BASE MSRP, but seem to recall seeing a figure of 2.5% somewhere else in this forum.

2)Opinions of this potential deal are welcome:
2008 G37 Journey (red/black)
Premium
NAV
Cargo Net
MSRP = $41,425
INV = $37,824
Agreed upon Net Cap Cost = $38,000 (includes Dealer fee)
Inceptions = $1365 (1st Payment, Bank Fee [$595], Tax + Tag)
Lease details = 24 months 15k miles/per
Payment = $532 (tax in)

thanks!!
