The break-in period is 1200 miles (yeah - 1200!). Keep it under 4k RPMs and avoid driving long distances at the same RPM. The break-in period is twice that of our Accord

Was offered this deal in suburban Philly. Any thoughts?

G35x, Premium, Nav, splash and cargo
39,725 MSRP
37,350 purchase
36 months/12,000 miles
61% residual
.0016 mf
$1,500 due at signing BUT will cut me a check for $1,000 to cover last 2 months of current car
-----$504/mo. including 9% PA tax

Any thoughts? Told them that I really needed to be under $500/mo. and they said that it couldn't be done without going to 39 months or giving up some of my $1,000 cash back. They let me walk and now I'm thinking that they really won't budge. Should I continue to look around?

What is the break in period by the way?

This would be the point where someone will say "RTFM" .

In this case, it might take you days or weeks to "RTFM" since there are several (more if you have Nav). If you look here in the forum I posted a link to download the manuals from Infiniti in PDF form. Makes it a lot easy to read and search on stuff.

As was mentioned, a silly long 1,200 mile break in period. I don't drive any one car many miles, so that means it takes me a LONG time to get through that. Heck, it will be time to change the oil before the car is broken in .

What is invoice for this car? How much is the dealer's doc or prep fee, if any? You want to be within $500 of invoice when you count the car, destination, and dealer fee. Once you have the price low, you just plug the numbers into a lease calc and see what the payment is. Roll in the taxes, tags, title, and $595 bank fee and see how it looks. If it is too much money per month, then you either have to lease less car (fewer options, other model), pay money down, or try to bargain the price down further.

Trying to fit something to a payment is doing it backwards and usually leads to a very bad deal. Price the car near invoice and run the numbers using the lease buy rate. That will be a "good deal" and if you can't afford it, so be it.

You can buy one at or below invoice which is around 33 or 34k. All this talk about switching SUV for kids are mostly bogus, but then again, it shouldn't really matter. A fair deal would be 15 - 20% off of 34K, that puts it around 27 or 28K tops.

IMO, 28K is too low if the car is clean. If the invoice is 34K, ~30K is a good deal for a couple months old car. 28K is o.k for trade-in value but not private sale.

update: $30K is his revised asking price. 2008 g35 prem/navi/tech/tires/cargo, w/ 3,700 miles.

weighing this against 06 Acura TL for $23.5K w/ 27,000 miles.

decisions, decisions, decisions...

08 model vs 06 model
G vs TL
3700 miles vs 27000 miles
....for $6.5K more
Seems like a no-brainer to me
