Randy, were you able to finalize a deal in AZ? I am just starting my search and am finding that most of the dealerships don't want to talk pricing over email. I'm looking at the G37 and am wondering what pricing people in Arizona are paying for the Journey (and what options they added)

One of the sources of revenue for a dealership is your trade. Just last week I was offered $7500 for mine, eventually settled on almost $10K, and it will be sold at an auction (I flipped through a book on the salesman's desk) for $12.5K. I did not want a hassle of going through a private sale. If I had agreed to the original price, it would have been $5K of profit for a dealer (minus his prep cost, of course).

On your other point -- I too was looking at a Lexus, but I wanted an all-wheel drive, so Infiniti was my choice. An IS250 turned too small for me. Now, a week later, I am really happy with my brand new G35!

If you have a CarMax or DriversWay in your area they will often buy your car for "about auction price". Usually a dealer will give you more for trade, but it never hurts (and costs you nothing but a little time) to have them look over your car and make an offer. Then if the dealer just will not give that much, go back and sell the others your car.

In many states you get a tax break for a trade, however. In my state the $10k you got for your trade would save you $700 in sales tax on the purchase of your new car.

I am looking at the AWD G35X with the premium package and navigation (basically fully loaded, except no laser cruise control). Can anyone share prices they paid or were quoted in MD, VA, DC, NC? Any information would be much appreciated.

My question remains. I never trade-in.
So, I don't understand how dealership makes money from my transaction, let alone how the salesperson makes money, when I get the car close to invoice ,then either buy the car for cash with no financing profit for the dealer, or lease at the net interest rate/money factor, without lease markup for the dealer.
Yes, I know about holdbacks, but the cars I'm looking at don't have them, or they don't amount to much.

If it makes you feel bad, then pay them some extra money - otherwise just drop it .

We all know there are hidden incentives, bonuses, tiered quota rewards, etc that dealers get. Their business plan is to make enough to cover expenses and make a profit without selling a new car - and anything they make there is gravy.

I don't understand why you need to understand how the dealer makes money. Do you not purchase anything from the grocery store until you understand their business model? How about Sears, Walmart, etc.? The bottom line for any business is to make a profit. You can rest assured a dealer isn't going to lose money selling you a car, and let it go at that.

I am also looking at a 2008 G35x platinum graphite w/premium pkg, nav, sport pkg sticker $40,575. What would be a good price? Or what have some of you paid for this model?

Look up the invoice online, take off the $500 customer cash and you have a great price. Anything from that number up to invoice for the car, destination, and dealer doc/prep fee would be an acceptable price.
