Great deal, grats! I'm amazed they went below invoice, and also surprised you didn't get a car with the port-installed-options of trunk mat, cargo net, and splash guards - seems like they all have that. What color did you get? Enjoy the car - it's great!

Hello, I have been following this forum for weeks now. I am hoping someone can help me with the following deals I was offered on a 2008 Journey with premium package. These are for a Lease:

1. $4,800 down. 39 months/12,000 miles. $419.95 per month.
2. $4,800 down. 24 months/12,000 miles. $386.00 per month.

All taxes are included in the monthly payment. Is this a good deal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I think you can get the X version for the same price. I paid for g35x with premium package

$3,000 down. 39 months/15,000 miles. $477.00 per month

I think you are paying about $25.00 more a month then I am if you work out the numbers. Plus mine is the G35x.

I would recommend putting less money into the deal. All you are really doing is pre-paying for future lease payments. Said differently, let's suppose that $3900 of your $4800 is going towards cap cost reduction. That makes your monthly payment lower, but think of it as $100/month for the term of the lease, or $519.95 in the 39 month lease example you provided.

You'd do better to put that money in a savings account and augment your payment each month with that money. Infiniti gets the use of your money sooner. There is no benefit to you other than the psychological feeling of having a "low payment".

Finally, if something were to happen to your car rendering it a total loss (i.e. theft or accident rendering the vehicle totalled), you'd be out your initial investment as the gap insurance will only compensate you up to the exposure on the vehicle.

If they did not have the car you wanted on the lot and had to locate one, why didn't you just walk out when you heard the high doc fee and them saying they would not budge? Go to a dealer that charges no doc fee or a very small one and if they didn't have the car on the lot, they could have located and sold you the same car. Now, they may have charged more to make up for not charging you the $600 doc fee, but you never know - and by paying such a high fee you encourage them to keep on charging it. If you had said "no way, I will go elsewhere to get my new car" then eventually, if enough folks do it, they will toss that fee out.

He bought the car in Atlanta, and I don't know if this area is like other metro areas, but every single car dealer here has a crazy doc fee. All the Infiniti dealers are $499 to $599. Most other auto makes are $499 (Honda, Toyota, Lexus, etc). Maybe it's just the Atlanta market, but they definitely get away with keeping the fee high.

When my wife bought her Accord we drove to a town in TN to get the particular model/color combo she wanted and even they had a $199 fee; but compared to Atlanta we saved $300 over the local Honda dealers fee, and the car itself was cheaper.

It's like banks and their service charges - sure they all supposedly compete in a free market, but when one bank raises the rates they all do. When there are only three dealers of a particular model in a 50 miles radius there is no real competition besides the price of the car. They all keep the "padding" at a nice fixed price. Even with the abundance of other manufacturers the dealers manage to keep the doc fee high.

It would be great if the fee was limited (like CA for example), but like you said, then he wouldn't be getting a deal below invoice

I have received online quotes from Gwinnett that had no doc fee, but they may have just figured their doc fee into the price they quoted me.

My nearest Infiniti dealer charges right at $500 for a doc fee, their excuse is that "the MB charges more" or something like that. That plus all the unwanted dealer installed options they put on every car mean they still have a good supply of left over 07 sedans and coupes (last time I looked). But even if they sold you one under invoice, by they time they add the doc fee and some price for the side sticker (3m clear bra, nitrogen fill, wheel locks, wind deflector, etc) you would end up not having a very good deal.

I don't mind travelling to get a good deal and have purchased and leased cars from all over. Telling a dealer to stick a $600 doc fee would be something I would have no problem doing when there are other dealers with much smaller or no doc fees.

Heck, most of the price-fixed Scion dealers locally charge the same doc fee ($300) but one in the surrounding area only charges $250. They told me "you would not believe the number of folks who make the drive to save the $50". Customers can't deal on the car price, but they can sure save $50 by getting it from a dealer who charges a smaller fee .

Hi Everyone,

I just got this quote on a 2008 G35x with Premium and Navigation:

$36069+Tax(5%)+(299-40 - Doc + Prep)+85(Plates)

What do you guys think? Is this a good deal?

Does your price of $36,069 include the $715 destination charge?

If all it has is premium and nav (no splash and no cargo net/mat) then invoice is
$35,909 - so your price is $160 over in invoice as long as it includes the dest charge. With a $300 doc fee then your net is $460 over invoice for a new 08, which sounds like a pretty good price to me as long as there are no other fees and add ones except the normal tags/title/taxes.

It does include the splash guards and cargo net, which is why it was 36069. I should have specified that!

I can't see anything wrong with the deal, just hoping the dealer will come thru!
