G35x or 6speed 2WD? by carnag

I was looking for some input from anyone. I'm looking at leasing either the G35x or the 6speed manual sedan 2WD. I live in Chicago so I have to deal with winters here so the x appeals to me. Can anyone tell me how well it handles in snow, or foul weather? I have a 3 series which does pretty good with winter tires, but AWD is always better in snow.

Also, does anyone know of a good dealer in the south, south/west suburbs? I'm closest to Infiniti of Orland Park. Has anyone gotten near invoice pricing on either of these cars? Which would offer a better lease deal? There seem to be a lot more G35x's at most dealers, so I'm thinking I could get a better price on it than the 2WD version.

Thanks for any help!

There are pros and cons to the G35x vs the 2WD, as with all things. First the downsides. The AWD system adds a little weight (though the engine and suspension are more than up to the task of handling it), hurts gas mileage a little, does not come with the sports package, and adds cost. The upsides might make this an attractive car for you, though. The AWD system is unusual in that it maximizes performance in both dry and slippery settings. From stops, the car accelerates initially with 80% to the rear wheels and 20% to the front wheels. If the car senses the need, it will stay in AWD and even increase the % going to the front wheels. If there is no need, however, the car will shift 100% to the rear wheels for improved dry pavement performance. Whenever sensors indicate the need, however, the AWD will automatically come back on and will distribute the power to the wheels in the ratio needed. There is also a "snow" switch that will turn the car into an all-time 50-50 AWD. This is NOT recommended in non-slippery settings, however.

Hope this helps.

I just bought the G35x, I also live in Chicago. I was told by a friend who has the 6spd coupe in DC that it is terrible in bad weather. I wouldn't consider a RWD car in Chicago (I live in the city) because it would make my alley unpassable for maybe 10-30 days each year.

As for dealers, there are only 6 (7?) in all of Chicagoland. I did a fax attack of the dealers near the end of August and had good success with 2 particular dealers- Lisle (speak to the owner who is also the sales manager), and Fields (2 dealerships). I ended up at Fields because they gave me the best price first.

Read back through this thread and you'll find my final price paid for my car.

Good luck. This is a great car and I'm loving it every time I drive it..

Thanks for the input grossie.

I was looking at Lisle, they seem to have A LOT in stock so I was hoping to get a good deal there. Is the owner/sales manager willing to work with on-line/internet sales, or do I need to go into the dealer? I've received 1 email from their internet sales consultant, still waiting on a quote though. I'll have to take a look at Fields.

By the way, how is the gas mileage? Thanks fot the input! Carnag

Is the intelligent key for 2006 G35 only for AT ? by wbr99

The infinitinews.com website says the following for the 2006 G35 Coupe as follows

New Premium Package adds Intelligent Key, Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone system and driver’s seat and steering wheel memory plus automatic entry/exit assist (5AT only)

Does this mean the intelligent key is only for the AT or is it also for the 6MT as well ? I ask this because they have an additional line that says

Premium Package for G35 Coupe models add Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone system and driver’s seat and steering wheel memory.

Also are all these features worth the wait for the 2006 G35 Coupe 6MT, or should i go for the 2005 G35 6MT.

Thanks

Just bought an '05 G35 from Field's and was quite pleased with the experience and pricing. I live in Kansas City, but contacted dealers within roughly 500 miles - Fields was THE most responsive and provided and very pleasurable buying experience. Stand up guys all the way! -TMc

I spoke w the dealer here, they require a $1000 deposit if you order, which is not refundable if you back out when the car gets delivered, even if the reason is due to non-agreement on prices.

Carnag- the last 2 cars I've bought I never met the dealer until I went in there with a check in hand. I only negotiate by phone, fax, and email. I also only do it at the end of the month. There's no way I'm going to go sit in a dealership for 3 hours and play that game where the salesman wears me down by repeatedly leaving for extended periods to "check with his manager". I use a system called fighting chance, you can buy it on the web. I don't think I can name the website here, but google those words, you'll find it. It's the best $35 I've spent in a long time.
