Replying to: thrillcall (May 17, 2006 7:56 am) Who is that dealer? Wish I bought my car there. I had my brake pads changed at 11,900 miles and later one of the service managers said the pads are made to last 12,000 miles. When I took it in at 15,000 miles, they said on my next visit (18,600 miles) I would need new pads and rotors. I can't wait to ask them what happened to the pads that last 12,000 miles. I think that early 2005's still have the same problem the 03's & 04's had but Infiniti isn't admitting it. They only admitted to the problem with the 03's & 04's after a class action law suit was filed.

Replying to: dkm (Apr 23, 2006 2:42 pm) Here is the first letter I wrote. November 25, 2005 Infiniti Consumer Affairs P. O. Box 191 Gardena, CA 90248 Dear Consumer Affairs, I am writing to tell you how disappointed I am that the front brake pads had to be replaced at 11,200 miles on my 2005 Infiniti G35. The service records for my car are attached to this letter. But I will recap what has happened on each visit. I took delivery of 2005 G 35X on 2-23-05. First and foremost, brakes are a safety issue. As a safety issue, there should be no mistakes made when they are checked. The second issue is the quality of the brake system on this car and third, the quality of service performed by the Infiniti technicians at Pepe Infiniti. I had the first service performed on my car at 3838 miles on 6-3-05. There is no notation on the invoice that the brakes were checked even though it is listed as part of the inspection for the 3750 mile service. The next service was on 8-26-05 at 7856 miles, I brought my car in for regular 7500 mile service. The notes regarding the brakes say 8mm. During this service visit, the metal trim on the driver door was damaged. Also, later when I opened the door I noticed a hole in the door panel. I called the Pepe Infiniti immediately upon noticing the damage. On 10-4 at 8801 miles, I brought my car in to get the Homelink checked because it has to re programmed at least every other month and have the door damage repaired. I told Sterling, the brakes moan in reverse and squeak in forward. When I picked up my car, I was told by Sterling the door trim was fixed, the finish people are on vacation so the door couldn’t be fixed, there was nothing wrong with my Homelink or my brakes. I told him, the loaner car’s (also a 2005 G35X) brakes make the same noises as mine so I guess that must be normal. The notes regarding the brakes on this visit say 10mm. On 11-21 at 11,279 miles, I brought my car in for regular maintenance and the have the door panel fixed which wasn’t fixed the last time. Mike asked me if there was anything else, and I told him that the brakes moan in reverse and squeak in forward. He told me that was because brake pads are no longer made with asbestos and there is a lot of dust and it’s the dust that causes the noise. I told him, that the last time I was told they were normal and also told him the loaner car made the same noise. My guess is that the brake dust comes from the brake pads wearing out. While my car was being serviced, Mike called me to tell me that the brake pads needed to be changed and the rotors were out of round. He told me there was 4 mm of pad left. I asked about the last time there were checked and he said 10 mm at 8801 miles and 10 mm is like new. I asked him how 60% of the brake pads could wear out in 2478 miles and there was no wear for the first 8801 miles. He said it’s the way the car is driven. I told him I have been driving the car the same way for all 11,279 miles and 32 years. He told me the pads were $99 but forgot to mention about the $68 of charged that go with the brake pads. For some reason, he took this to mean that I didn’t think the brake pads needed to be changed and offered to give me the used brake pads as proof. He told me he got the manager over to verify the brake depth, etc. I told him I believe they needed to be changed, because I have been complaining about the brakes for a while and was told there was nothing wrong with them. What I was actually questioning is whether the brakes were checked at all during the 10-4 visit and where was the service manager on that day? And if the brakes were not really checked or recorded properly, then how can I trust that anything else was done correctly or at all during any service visit. Then when I got home, I found my paper work from the 8-26 visit and saw the notation of 8mm for the brakes. So there are three conclusions to be drawn from this. Either the brake pads can regenerate or they were never checked on the 10-4 visit or they were worn down more than recorded on the 10-4 visit, but if they told me my brake pads needed to be changed at 8801 miles, it would point toward a problem with the braking system. If they were checked properly then the rotors wouldn’t have been out of round on this visit. Upon further investigation, all over the Internet are people with the same complaints with 2005 G35X’s. There seems to be a similar problem with the 2005 model as with the 2003 and 2004. When I called Mike on 11-22 to ask him about the braking system for my car and to be sure it was a 2005 system and not the same as 2003 and 2004. He said it wasn’t because Infiniti isn’t covering brakes on the 2005. I told him that doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything wrong with the brakes on the 2005 G35X. It doesn’t appear that Infiniti admitted early there was a problem with the 2003 & 2004. Why else would you put the same braking system in the 2004’s and why would there have to be a class action suit. Also on the Internet, I see that Infiniti/Nissan has brake issues in other vehicles. So my question is if there was a problem with the brake system in the 2003 and why did Infiniti put the same system in the 2004. Is it because Infiniti was ignoring or denying a problem with the 2003’s? Since Infiniti put braking systems not appropriate for this car in 2003 and 2004, how can a customer be certain that you got it right in 2005. I think Infiniti is aware that there is a problem with the 2005 brakes, too. The service people are good at covering up and blaming the driver of the car because they have been dealing with this problem for a while. They probably told the first customers with 2003 it was their driving, too. By the way, your solution for the 2003 and 2004 problem is generous but certainly not appropriate coverage. If it’s a manufacturing issue, that why is Infiniti only responsible for their mistake for 3 years or 36,000 miles. I am sure it will take a while for Infiniti to acknowledge that the brakes aren’t much better in the 2005 than they were in the 2003 and 2004. Or maybe it will take another Class Action Lawsuit for your service people to stop blaming the driver of the car. Now the brakes on this car don’t moan and squeak, there is a new noise a combination of a moan and a squeak in reverse. I guess it’s the new pads starting to wear already. After I send this letter, I will make sure that I post my problem on every website and blog I can find. The more people that know it’s not their driving the better. When my friends and strangers ask me how I like my car, I’ll make sure they know about the brake problem. “Great car if you don’t mind spending $168 every 11,000 to fix the brakes on a brand new car. I am sorry I bought the car rather than leasing.

Replying to: dkm (Apr 23, 2006 2:42 pm) December 12, 2005 Consumer Affairs Department Infiniti Corporate Office 18501 South Figueroa Street Gardena, CA 90248 Dear Consumer Affairs Department, I received the attached letter from Rosyln White in response to my letter of November 24, 2005 which is attached.. Not only I am not satisfied with the service and response I get from my “authorized Infiniti dealership” regarding the premature wear of my brake pads, I am disappointed that she totally missed the point of my three page letter. The noise from my brakes is not my main concern. I believe that this is a symptom or a warning that the brake pads are wearing out. The point of my letter, under the part that says first and foremost brakes are a safety issue. Just for your clarification, not the noise they make, but how they perform and wear and how they are examined by the technicians at my “authorized Infiniti dealership.” The service record that was included with my first letter, indicates that at 8801 miles the pads had 10mm left on them and 2489 miles later, they had 4 mm and needed to be replaced. So rather than pick out the part of my letter that states my brakes are noisy, please address the issue of my brake pads wearing out to the point of wear they needed to be replaced in 2489 miles. This was addressed by Pepe Infinity’s Service Department as they way I drive the car, which is NOT the case. I have been driving my car the same way since the day I took delivery. Why does Infiniti have a Consumer Affairs Department if they are going to send everyone back to the dealer. If the dealer admitted there is something wrong with the car then there would be no reason for me to contact Consumer Affairs in the first place. Again, this is not about the NOISE but the quality of the brake system and the technicians working on it. I have highlighted the important parts of this letter you will be able to pick them out easily. Sincerely,

Replying to: dkm (Apr 23, 2006 2:42 pm) File #5160798 Dear Mrs. Morandi This listter is on acoordanhce with your recent letter dated November 25, 2005 concerning the brake squeal on your 2005 G35. As you were advised, Infiniti vehicles are not unique to brake squeal, as other manufacturers experience the same concern. Inifinit is in the process of researching compenents and materials that will reduce brake noise. Your local iInfiniti dealership will be advised with the corrective method of repair when it becomes available. However, if you have a concern abou the brake performance, (and not the brake squeal) please call your authorized Infiniti dealership, to schedule an appointment to have your brakes examined and/or repaird, if necessary. Thank you once again for writing and for allowin us the opportunity to review this with you. Sincerely, Roslyn White Regional Consumer Affairs Representative Nissan North America This letter did not respond to my concerns about the brake pads wearing out at 11,000 miles or the fact that they had been replaced. When I called Roslyn, I asked her if she even read the rest of the letter. |

I sympathize with you. I have a 2003 and am on my third set of brakes and rotors (34,000 miles). This has irritated me enough to put a down payment on a lexus ES350. I usually keep my cars for 10 years but this is the first time I'm getting rid of a car after 4 years. If you think paying $168 is bad wait until you have to put rotors on too. Be prepared to shell out $587 every other time you have to change the pads. I spoke to an infiniti consumer affairs specialist and told her I probably won't keep the car because of this. She told me good luck with your decision. I only wanted them to cover my pads and rotors but I was over the time limit. Some good will on the dealer's part probably would have made me consider keeping it but now I feel I am making the right decision. I know everybody can't do this. I guess if I loved the car more I would probably try to stick it out but with the lousy gas mileage, adventurous handling in the snow, I need something that I will feel is reliable. Is the lexus ES 350 it? I have no idea but if I'm going to spend my money on maintainence I think that the wearable item should last longer. The arrogance of Infiniti astounds me. I think if more people protested by getting rid of their cars they might get the message but I know that isn't always possible. I have a recall coming up with the gas tank. I will also mention to them the bushings making a metal on metal sound. That will probably be a recall also. They didn't engineer this car very well, unfortunately we the consumers are going to have to pay for it. I for one will not be one of them. |

Replying to: kat23 (Jun 07, 2006 6:43 am) After 11 attempts, 2 dealers, and lots of grief, Infiniti is going to repurchase my car (plus tax etc. minus wear & tear). They were not able to determine the intermitent source of battery drain - even after they experienced the problem in the shop! : ) Contact the BBB Autoline (Arlington VA). I pled my case to the local Arbitrator (whose decision is binding - only if I want it to be!). BBB was excellent. Very positive experience.

Replying to: sezra76 (Jan 14, 2006 1:27 pm) Has anybody had any problems like this?? The noises seem to come from the two rear windows mostly, but now has moved to the front passenger window as well. It has become like Chinese water torture....all I hear when I'm driving my car is the creaking, above the radio and everything. Before I trade the car in and buy a new one (yes, it is THAT bad and annoying) I want to try to fix it. Any suggestions!? |
