| A dealer here in Omaha was selling any new 2004 Ram left on the lot for at least $10,000 off the window price. | |

WOMEN AND TRUCKS. One of our journalists is writing an article about women and trucks: why they love their trucks, the decisions that they have to make when purchasing a truck versus a car, and whether or not they’ve encountered discrimination or bias when buying or driving a truck. Yeah, you could probably pull it - but I'm gonna tell you right now you're gonna be DRASTICALLY reducing the life of that little 9-1/4" rearend not counting the strain being put on the rest of the drive train. You're gonna need a Dodge 2500 because it has a 10-1/2" rearend. A Hemi & 5 speed automatic with the $50 optioned 4.10 rearend gear will give you the best gasoline-powered pull capability (17,000# max with truck, passengers, cargo, & trailer). The truck itself weighs ~6,700 empty, so you'll have ~10,000 pounds of room with passengers, cargo, & trailer. This is the very setup I ordered from Dodge. I would've REALLY liked to have the Dodge 3500 with the Hemi because it has the 11-1/2" rearend, but I didn't want a dually; I could've ordered it with the single rearend wheels, but Dodge wants an extra $1,100+ for single wheel. (WTF is *that* all about???). Good luck - you'll find your best deal is if you ORDER your truck. Dodge is offering a $3,000 rebate on 2500 trucks with the Hemi for March, so take advantage. Also, if you know someone who works at Chrysler, you can get the Family/Friends Plan that'll get you below invoice and you get the $3,000 rebate below that, plus you'll get an additional $1,000 rebate by financing thru Chrysler. A word of advice: don't go wild on options - Ebayers are selling the options stuff (Mopar OEM towbars, OEM stereos, etc for CHEAP)...get the drivetrain and add the options later. However, I would get the SLT package - lots of creature comforts for the buck. Good luck, DY

I dealt with a dealer yesterday who quoted me a certain price in writing via email. The dealer listed the exact stock # and gave me a great price. When I got there, they said that they made a mistake in the price and told me that they would not honor the price that was sent to me. I have checked the BBB and there are plenty of complaints about this dealership on other matters and it is listed that they are not in good standing due to their non responsive attitude. I have contacted the dealership and their attitude is that how could I expect to get that truck at that price. They take no responsibility whatsoever. Does anyone know if they have a legal obligation to honor the price that they quoted me in writing. Any info would be quite helpful. Thank you

You need to take your business elsewhere and then drive up to the salesperson and show them the sale the WOULD HAVE HAD if they had honored the quote...but maybe it is still better that you did not buy from them, because their service dept will be a reflection of the remainder of the dealership, which cannot be good...and, if you bought it there, but went elsewhere for service, yes, another dealer will service it, but you get placed at the "bottom of the list" when it comes to the little courtesies, because you bought it somewhere else...it is a natural instinct, dealers will take better care of those from whom they made some profit on the sale, because you may buy there again...so, it is not always in your best interest to get the cheapest price from a rotten dealer, because you may pay for it in other small ways over the years when you go elsewhere for service and warranty work... in other words, the cheapest selling price from from the worst dealer may not be the best price in the long run of your ownership experience... I just picked up a Ram 1500 4x4 Quad SLT. 4.7L on lease. Had towing package, Big Horn group (20" rims, fog lights, other crap),and 24 G package. The sticker was 34,400 , the Gross Capitalized Cost was 28,239 and they gave me $7000 of rebates and incentives, meaning I could have purchased for $21,939. I had Friends and Family, and owner loyalty (I have a 97 minivan). I paid 3700 for a 1 time payment for 24 mon. / 24,000 miles. I can purchase at end for 19,800. Was it a good deal, and should I have purchased? |
