Re: Problem with 2005 Ram Delivery by airbearma

There is definitely something going on at Dodge. I got the VIN in early August. I saw a "confirmed" delivery date to the dealer of August 26. Now I'm told that the truck has been sitting for 2 months and that it would be quicker to reorder a new truck. This sounds like either my order was hijacked by Dodge to ship out somewhere else or Dodge has a major quality problem and has two months worth of production rotting away somewhere. I'm getting tired of the run around.

...or your dealer took delivery and sold it out from under you.

I'm looking at buying in the next few days and was wondering if anyone had purchased a new truck like this one recently. There aren't too many around here and the price competition is scarce. The first price given after rebates and with the Chrysler financing is $26,400. What do you think guys?

I would think that you could do somewhat better than that -- maybe a 1000 or so. I was quoted at about 6500 below sticker for a CTD, and they are holding the rebates lower on the diesel. I would try for a little less.

Well, over 2 months after parting with my cash, despite the slowness of the dealer, US vehicle registration officials and a load of hurricanes stopping all shipping out of the Gulf, my 2004 1500 5.7 HemiSport arrives on Sunday!

Now I've just got the UK registration officials to deal with! Oh yeah, and $6/gallon gas prices!

New Dodge Owner and Questions by admasters

Hello all. I am a new Dodge owner. About 3 weeks ago I bought a 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4 SLT with the 5.7L hemi engine. It has the 20 inch chrome wheels and the electronic AWD and tow package. I bought the truck from CarMax after having it shipped from Knoxville, TN to Norcross, GA. The price was $23,995 and it had 10,000 miles on it. I traded in my 96 Nissan 4x4 King Cab with 89,000 miles, which they gave me $5,100 for it (purchase price after trade was $18,895). I thought this was a fair deal considering the great condition the Dodge was in.

Questions:
It has an aftermarket (I think) dual exhaust system that has a great sound but it is a little on the loud side. Would moving the exhaust outlets from the sides to the rear make the noise a little quieter in the cab?
Also, I am now thinking about upgrading to a cold air intake system (such as K&N). What other brands are recommended? Does this void the manufacturers warranty? Does this actually improve performance and most importantly gas mileage over the original equipment?
I am also thinking of eventually adding a roll-top bed cover

Thanks for your suggestions and comments.
Thanks,
Anthony

$1,450 below invoice! by br_brian

I purchased a Ram 1500 this weekend. Great truck, but I am amazed at the deal I got. Sticker was $30,580, invoice $27,253 and I paid $25,790... before rebates. That's $1,454 below invoice, probably $600 below holdback... and almost $2,000 less that what Edmunds says others are paying.

I wish I had some great negotiating story to tell, but about an hour after a test-drive I called the salesman and told him exactly what I was looking for. He called back about 15 minutes later and gave me the price. Not surprisingly they weren't willing to negotiate any lower.

The sales manager told me they were trying to make quota, but there has to be something more going on to account for such aggressive discounting. Can someone explain to me how they can do this?
