2006 Ford F250 diesel vs Dodge 2500 Diesel by stoyeb

Okay, I am about to spend $40K+ on a truck and trying to decide which will be the best truck.. Ford F250 crew cab 6.0 powerstroke or the Dodge equivelant, 2500 crew cab with the cummins engine..
Will be using it for alot of highway miles(commute) but will be using it for heavy work on the farm too, along with towing a trailer with tractors and equipment on it...
I have been a Ford truck owner forever, but it really seems like the cummins engine is really reliable..
If anyone has any input good or bad for either of these trucks I would appreciated..
thanks in advance,
Brad

V8's verses inline's by ford2k

There are pro and cons to both trucks. I have owned both.
Dodge with the 6 cyl. this engine has one more main bearing then the V series engine. this is good for long life. on the other hand the V 8 has alot of quick response time at a lower and higher rpm.
the Ford engine has alot of electrical equipment that can and do go wrong. the Dodge has some what of the same equipment but history proves the inline can give you alot of hard work with fewer problems. After you buy a truck really check out all of the power boosting gizzmoess that you can buy. there are alot of snake oil sales people out there. The best thing for a boost on any engine is allowing the engine to breath in and out for maximum proformance.
Hope that I helped you.
Greg.

Go get it, I recently purchased a 1997 Dodge Ram! I bought it from a police officer in town. It had 97k miles on it and needed some work. I removed all of the after market junk and polished the truck. Tuned it up and replaced the front end components. Sense then, I have put 18k miles on the truck and I am learning that Dodge knows how to build a great truck. The ride is smooth and the gas consumption was better then my 1991 K-5 Chevy Blazer. But that is no mystery! I took the kids and my girl friend on a long trip of 3k mile just last week. The only down fall, was that all the bodies inside the truck, in the hot south Texas sun. Well it was cool but not cold! That is my story and I bought a great truck! I think you will be pleased.

What front end fits on my 1997 Dodge Ram? by dmuecke

The plastic trim on my front bumper of my 1997 Dodge Ram is loose. I like the look of the sport front end on the 1999 year model Ram. The fenders are the same on both trucks! So would this front end assembly fit on my 1997 Dodge Ram? The grill/Bumper assembly! It just looks tough!

Yes, the 1999 Sport grille and bumper will mount to your 97. Just make sure you get the complete set, as the 99 Sport grille is slightly larger and the bumper is depressed in the center to accomodate it.

I have not had much luck with my Dodge 1500. So far I have replace 2 transmission, one rear differential. The dash has literally fallen out of the truck in peaces. The paint is of poor quality and the over all truck is of poor design as far as the way it is put together and the materials used. I have had to push ever issue to the wall to get the dealers to fix the obviously manufactures defects, Week and months lost as the truck set at the dealer. It’s a shame I really like the truck looks and room in the cab, if they would use good quality materials and rethink the way the truck is put together it could be one of the best.

Hmm. What year is your Ram? Mileage? New-bought or used? My '03 2500 is the best-built vehicle I've ever owned, and I haven't had a problem that wasn't my own fault (gelled fuel) yet. What manufacturer defects do you have? My paint is fine (aside from the dings I've put in it) and my dashboard is solid. I can't answer for your tranny or diff as my 6-speed manual and heavy-duty diff were never available in the 1500.

Hello everyone, My name is Michael and I bought My first new Dodge ram 2500 quad cab last year. I've owned a few dodge diesels in the past. I loved the truck, plenty of room, plenty of power and got great fuel mileage. Shortly after I got it though it started having starting problems, and they turned into stalling problems. Has any one heard of this with the 05's? It had been in the shop several times, but since id did thid=s only intermitently they never could find the problem or recreate it. It is not a problem anymore since it helped me to not negatiate a sharp curve in the road, but would like to know if this is a common problem before I buy another new truck.

A national newspaper is looking to interview consumers who have decided to hold on to their current pickup truck, rather than purchasing a new one. Please send an e-mail to ctalatiedmunds.com no later than Wednesday, August 9, 2006 by 2:30 PM PT/5:30 PM ET containing your daytime contact information and what pickup truck you currently own.
