#935 of 3856 1993 toyota corolla oil usage
Jul 29, 2001 (5:30 pm)
My daughter has a 93 toyota corolla with 130,000 miles. Recently the oil usage has become extreme (3 to 4 qts of oil every 3000 miles). I do not notice the car smoking and there are no oil leaks under her car where she parks nor do I see any wet oil on or under the engine. What can I be looking for? Should I take the car in to the dealer and have him check the compression for rings?
#936 of 3856 Airbag light malfunction on 98 Corolla
Jul 30, 2001 (3:59 am)
I am in the process of buying a 98 Corolla with this problem. The problem has occurred before and the owner had it fixed (said the problem was a sensor and the system had to be reset) and it is occurring again. At the time of repair the vehicle (leased) was under warranty. Could this be a more serious problem that the dealer doesn't want to deal with? The owner seems sincere and says she would rather sell the car than turn it back in to the leasing company (57,000 miles therefore a penalty). The clock also is flashing when you turn on the turn signals and sometimes goes out altogether only to come back on again intermittently or when you tap on the dash. The dealer says this is a result of the air bag light malfunction. Dealer also says this will not effect air bag performance. Suggestions?
#937 of 3856 Feedback on Corrolla LE 2001
Aug 01, 2001 (11:25 am)
I'm looking into buying a Corolla LE 01. I'd love some feedback from anyone who has one about any problems you've had. (I'm also considering Honda Civic, or Mazda Protege.)
Aug 01, 2001 (12:09 pm)
I've had my '01 Corolla LE for 4 months - it's been perfect - the gas mileage is even better than I expected (I have a 4-speed auto) I got 32.1 MPG on my last tank (city driving) - I also considered the Protege, Focus, Civic and Sentra - I think they are all good cars - I chose the Corolla because it had a better warranty than the Civic (the Civic was my second choice) and I was able to get a better deal...plus, I liked the interior of the Corolla better and I liked the 125 HP better than the 115 of the Civic - hope this helps - good luck
#939 of 3856 Shop manual for 2002 Corolla
Aug 01, 2001 (1:59 pm)
Would anybody have a good source for a shop manual for 2002 Corollas? I'm sure I can get it from the dealer, but I am trying to locate a less expensive source...
Thanks in advance.
#940 of 3856 '96 Corolla "Check Engine" Light Came On
Aug 01, 2001 (4:41 pm)
My daughter was driving my '96 1600cc Corolla (57K miles) today and the "Check Engine" light came on. She didn't notice anything wrong with the car's performance at all. She came straight home and parked it (good girl!). I checked it when I got home and the light still came on when I cranked it. Looking under the hood, everything looked fine (oil, belts, connectors, etc.) I thought maybe it was one of those maintenance reminder things, so I disconnected the positive cable on the battery then reconnected it. The light didn't come on. Then I drove it at 45 mph approx. 3 miles and it came back on and stayed on, again with zero symptoms. I called my mechanic and he can't book me until next week. Anybody know if this might be something a shade-tree mechanic could deal with? My mechanic said it could be one of a host of things (oxygen sensor, throttle positioner, etc.). Thanks for any info you have. John, Durham, NC

Someone in this forum(??) had the same problem . The problem was a dead catalitic converter.
Stop by the dealer and ask them to check a car.
#942 of 3856 Shift to parking before car stopped
Aug 03, 2001 (3:17 pm)
I have a automatic 99 Corolla....
I shift to parking to parking before the car comes to a complete stop, there was some grinding noise coming from underneath my car. What consquences can this cause??? My car is still running fine, I think.... You guys think I should have it check out??
Can it have possibly damaged the transmission, or the engine by any chance???

#944 of 3856 2002 Corolla A/C
Aug 04, 2001 (4:44 am)
I have a 2002 Toyota Corolla type S. I went to the dealer stating that my a/c was not cold enough. The dealer evacuated the system and recharged the a/c to factory specs. However, the a/c is still only fair and the compressor is constantly turning on and off. Does anybody know what is wrong? This does not seem correct. The car is great and mileage has been 35 Highway.
