got a quote for 16,299 (16799-500 rebate) for a corolla LE with package D and floormats. Wondering is this is a good price |

If you are paying cash, that is definitely a "BUY BUY BUY" quote. With the holdback included, the dealer paid 15974 for the vehicle. Have you asked whether the price of 16799 includes all fees including delivery charge and documentation fees? If there is a trade-in, be careful. They are going pretty far back to cut you a price of 16299. They may be counting on undervaluing your trade. You would need to research the value of your trade well, as I suspect this is a deal which will both be financed (i.e. you are getting a loan from somewhere) and, you are trading in a car. Again, the above is for the 2009 LE with weather guard, 6-CD/MP3, Cruise, keyless entry, VSC and TRAC. <-- Yes to all of these, correct? The only other thing I would wonder about ... and this only applies if you are financing the car with a loan ... is why take the $500 rebate when you can take advantage of 0% financing?

The 16799 includes destination charge of 720. There is no trade-in. I am curiosly he did not mention any documentation fees. I have been leaning towards doing the 0% for the 3 years. What is the $27/28.00 per 1000 borrowed? Do you know?\ The car will come with: Factory Installed Accessories: FE CL EM EV CK KE LE VS Port Installed Accessories ..: CF MSRP total 18,804 Lastly, and sorry to take time away from you. Where did you come up with 15974? Thank you

Replying to: needhelp20 (Oct 18, 2008 10:34 am) 15974 is using the model of CR {Google: CR buying kit user } and includes all the details you listed in your previous message for package D. In the current Corolla market, you should expect to pay 103% to 107% of the $15,974 number. 15974 is the price the dealer paid for that car, including all the options you have mentioned. On the low end, consumer should pay [ 103%] of 16453.00 and high end [ 107% ] of 17092.00 . Your dealer has offered $16799 with 0% financing, and 3 years to pay. I believe that, even if unannounced to this date, you will see additional $150-$200 for documentation fees added. So you would be financing $16999 for 36 months, is $472.19 per month for 36 months. Now, in my opinion, $472.19 per month is very high monthly payment for a compact Corolla LE. But of course, I do not know how much you plan to put down on down payment. Going 48 months with the 1.9% financing is much more adviseable in my opinion. The reason for this is because of the high retain value your Corolla will hold during those 48 months (and even beyond 48 months). or instance, in this example, you could put down $1,500 downpayment; then choose 48 months financing at 1.9% interest rate; and your monthly payment would be then $335.60 for 48 months. This is much more reasonable for a small compact car on the lower end of market such as Corolla. Compare the $335 monthly payment to $472 monthly payment, and you free your budget by a good $137 dollars per month. Yes, when taking the 48 month option, it is true that this will cost you additional $580.00 in interest over the 48 month period. But that is only about $11.00 extra per month, or the cost of three (3) cafe grande mocca latte caramel per month extra ... to free your budget otherwise by $137 per month !! So drink three (3) less coffees in each month and enjoy your extra $137 in each month to spend or save as you wish otherwise. At the end of those 48 months, your Corolla LE would still have a trade in value of about seven thousand ($7000-$8000) dollars depending on mileage and condition. That is a very good amount to trade it in after 48 months, advancing you $7000-$8000 on your next car. Another great idea: If you were willing to spend $472 for 36 months, then you can take that extra $137 per month and invest it into any sort of saving program such as moneymarket or good savings account. And you will more than make back your lost $580 in the 48 month stretch, by being a saver in an interest bearing account. Hope that helps.

Yes, it's impossible to say for certain, but your sheet shows only a difference of $276 between what my "dealer paid for" price and your sheet's "dealer paid for" price. (15974 versus 15698). One thing is for certain, the dealer won't sell a car for less than what he or she paid for it, that much is just common sense. I suspect there is much more than holdbacks which occur, in terms of volume of sales for the dealership, and a "return back later" on the cost of delivery (if it was ever charged for each individual car in the first place). The important thing, is that if a reasonable amount the dealer actually paid for the car can be ascertained at approx. ~158xx --- just don't be the poor fellow who pays 18804 for it. I think you have a very good deal captured right now, I certainly wouldn't be shy to buy it for that price based on my own research during the last month. That's my two cents anyway. |
