| An EX with all the trimmings for $1500 below MSRP at Connell Auto in Oakland CA. Forget about trying online quotes, they are a waste of time. Had to hold the line through not to many games, generally a good experience. The Oct. demand coupled with the west coast dock strike had put visions of sugar plums dancing in dealers heads. Window sticker had $8000 over MSRP if you can believe it. But it seems demand has fallen off a cliff in the last month or so. And from my suriptious take on the manager's sales board that's true across the brands. So far everything with my KIA seems fine, but I'll keep y'all informed in thanks for the help you gave me. Only hitch was that dealer said the mudguards aren't available yet. | |
| Right now the accessories available are sunroof deflector, hood bra, hood bug and stone deflector, cargo tray, window vent visors and mudguards. I purchased all the items except the sunroof deflector and hood bra. I have only installed the muguards. Simple enough to do. Look at the mudguard and figure which screws to remove and install. The other items such as window vents and front hood deflector require adhesive tape to be used and the weather is to cold for the recommended installation. Talk to the parts guy he should be able to get what you need. | |

| I have installed the mud guards (which should be bigger for an SUV) and they look nice, Also put the hood cover on, it looks great! I took off the two cross rails from the roof rack, I don't use the roof rack anyway, gave it a sporty look, next I will purchase the vent visors and am waiting for the side steps to become available. I do recommend everyone to check out the Sorento at www.Cobra-sor.com. It looks great!! Too bad we can't get that stuff here. I love the 18" wheels on it, and I am thinking of putting something like that on my Sorento EX. This vehicle looks great accesorized !!! | |

| All this time, I have only seen 2 Sorentos on the road. The two I saw was in March 2002, around the auto show season, and those two were masked up. Where are they? They are selling all of these vehicles, and none of them are showing up on the road...I'm beginning to wonder whether any of them exist! | |
| hicaffa - I ordered the mug guards and the service will install at no charge for me since I ordered when I bought the car. I believe the side step bars is available yet. The brochure said "late available" among with the front bumper guard. Ask your dealer for this two-page long accessories brochure. Thanks for the info on WeatherTech. I just knew they have this for Sorento. I am sure the rear set is universal. What are the front? For the Tornado and others stuffs, I have no interest anymore. If these things really work (maybe just a little help), why the automarker would put one on. It is just a money marking opportunate. Sorry! I just don't buy these things. No offense! | |
| To all Sorento owners - F.Y.I. I believe this is a Kia way when the seatbelt (at least for the driver) is not worn, the seatbelt warning light will not come on. It (and among other warning lights) will on for few seconds when you turn your key to "On" position. This is a normal condition, like hicaffa mentioned about some Ford and GM cars. This is also the same thing on my brother's girlfriend newly purchased 2003 Kia Spectra GSX hatchback. Have anyone heard someone would file a law suit when someone die in a car accident. because the light is not on to remind them to wear seatbelt. I doubt it. What about recalls? Anyway folks! Fasten your seatbelt! | |

Mikesf if you want to see my white sorento: www.sorento-forum.de/html/home.htm ,( under #11) there are some other sorentos there. one of the links shows the korean version (different kia logo) with what looks as the navigation screen. Lok888 I hope 2003 is like 2002 for Kia, NO recalls.. www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls To all of You, HAPPY HOLIDAYS....I wish Santa Brings me another Sorento.. |

Well, when we start our Sportage up...the Seatbelt Light comes on, and stays lit, until the driver puts his/her seatbelt on. The little dingie also comes on, if the driver takes his/her seatbelt off, and stays on for about 6 Seconds. OK, after complaining, I finally saw a Sorento...in a Mall Parking Lot! Just purchased today...so they do exist. |

#1 - Seat Belt Light: We have had a tremendous amount of traffic regarding whether or not this light should or should not come on. Are you kidding me? Does it really matter that much? Do you we need our dashboard to tell us to wear our seatbelt? I don’t think so. <End of Rant> #2 – Keys: You can have a locksmith cut you a key. I did and it works flawlessly. The Kia’s DO NOT use chips in their keys. #3 – Load Leveling: I posted a similar question regarding what type of load leveling is in the Sorento. A gentleman responded via email to me with the following, excellent explanation: I saw your late October post on edmunds about auto leveling. Did you ever get the answer you were looking for about how it works? Assuming you didn't, I thought I'd offer you a bit of information. The system is rather elegant from an engineering point of view, but no salesman could ever explain it properly. I looked into it when I used to work as an engineer for Toyota. The system consists of rear shock absorbers made by Sachs, a Germany company. They call them Nivomats. They are used extensively in Europe, where headlight aiming rules are strictly enforced, no matter what the load in a car. They are used stateside on the rear of Tahoes, Suburbans, and Chrysler minivans. These have hydraulic chambers that are SELF PRESSURIZING, which is why you have heard no compressor noise - there isn't one. There are no lines or anything outside the shocks. It's all done internally. The really neat part is these absorbers act as shock absorbers AND as supplemental rear springs. The rear coil springs on your Sorento are no doubt softer than Sorentos without leveling, because your rear shocks are also behaving as springs, and variable rate springs at that. To get the total rear spring rate on your car you combine the coil spring rate with the Nivomat spring rate. The shocks have a couple of ports on an internal shaft. When you load the vehicle and it sags below the lowest port, a circuit is opened that directs hydraulic fluid into a chamber. How does the fluid enter the chamber? By the pumping action created by suspension movement as you drive. It takes a half mile, perhaps more if the road is very smooth. It keeps pumping until it gets to the upper port on that internal shaft. So your car may look low when you first add weight, but after driving a while it will pump up to normal height. The spring rate of the shock increases in proportion to how much fluid pressure is needed to bring the car back up to level, which is to say, the rear spring rate increases as rear axle weight increases. When you park a loaded vehicle, it will hold pressure for 24 hrs or more. Start driving and it pumps back up again. If you unload, the pumped up shock may extend ABOVE the upper port, causing pressure to be released from the chamber until the car settles down below the upper port. This takes a minute or so, so it may look a little high in the rear when you first unload. All in all, it is very slick! Self-contained, no outside parts, circuits, or wiring to need maintanance, transparent operation. The only downside is you have to keep using these shocks. If one ever needs replacing, you have to make sure that a Sachs Nivomat made for a Sorento (correct size and port locations) is put on. And that means going to the dealer. And don't assume that the dealer service guy will know the difference himself. Make sure you point it out. If anyone ever puts regular rear shocks on, then you no longer have the spring rate that the Nivomat provides (and it does provide quite a bit, even when the car is empty), so the rear suspension would be WAY too soft. |
