Oh my god!
People have often complained that the Freestyle is free of style, but the new 2008 look of the FS, or is that Taurus X (bad idea in my opinion) looks hideous!
Perhaps it is just that photo with the two tone paint and perhaps a mono-tone paint job would be better. But Ford have got to be kidding themselves to think that this will sell. Then again it may, because it will end up being the poor man's 6 seater cross over. I suspect most will be discounted and sold in the mid 20s. Anyone who wants something a bit more stylish would get a Pacifica (especially with the newly introduced upgraded engine and 6-speed), and those with a but more cash would go to the Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia.
Of course this is just my opinion but I think this will flop even further. The three bar grill my look good on the Fusion but it looks crap on most other vehicles...

My gray Freestyle is really blah looking. A two-toned red one I rented at O'Hare for a vacation was much better looking.

Are you serious? I was wishing for an Eddie Bauer model when I bought in '04. In looking at the entire list of changes, it actually seems as though Ford listened to customers and made all the changes I've seen asked for in this forum. The only thing I'm waiting to see is the pricing. If it isn't overpriced, it should be a winner if advertised at all. Did the Pacifica change? I bought my FS because it looked so much better than that. Along with more room, and better driving.

When I posted yesterday asking if the Freestyle was to become the Taurus Wagon it was totally in jest. Now I see they have gone and changed the name to Taurus X. I understand Ford is trying to pull itself out of the grave, but I think changing the name of the Freestyle was a total miscalculation.
Crossovers by nature appeal to a certain segment of the market that doesn't want to drive a generic vehicle like a traditional station wagon or a minivan. They are somewhat status conscious so they opt for a crossover because it has most of the capability of the aforementioned vehicles, but has the looks and feel of an SUV. How many of these people does Ford think want to have a generimobile such as a Taurus in their driveway?
I think they may have done this so they can count Freestyle sales in with the Taurus sales to try and reclaim some sort of former glory when the sales numbers come out. Perhaps they should add some more Taurus variants and exploit names used buy other manufacturers:
Focus - Taurus Mini
Fusion - Taurus Camcord
F150 - Taurus Titan
Expedition - Taurus Max
Explorer - TaurusEx
Mustang - Anti Taurus
GT - The TyrannoTaurusRex

Looks hideous? I don't think so. And Remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I wish the new Freestyle-Taurus success.

Your Taurus lineup was very amusing.

I agree. I would have had a very very hard time buying anything called 'Taurus'. I am not sure which I abhor more - Taurus' or Minivans. Either way they provoke the same feeling.

I agree, if the Freestyle had been called Taurus back in 2005 I probably would not have bought one.
To me, the Taurus name is tainted and will always synonymous with tired sad rental fodder. I thought that was why they dropped the line. The name had fallen into disrespect.
I must say though the pictures of the Taurus X that have been posted on the Acadia forum look a lot better than the one I posted here. Still not enough though to not make me want an Acadia.

Sorry guys, I have to disagree. If Ford had done this when the 500 and FS came out originally, we wouldn't have been having the discussions a year ago about whether the models were doomed. Taurus always represented a well-equipped, reliable (most of the model years) value. Boring? maybe. But there wouldn't have been the confusion over the Freestyle/Freestar and the 500/FS could have been co-advertised for what they were -- roomy family autos. I for one am happy Ford is doing this and hope this gives long life to the line.

To each his own.
I respectfully call the Taurus the Tortise. Looks and moves like a turtle.
