I read your problem with interest. I have a 96 Chrysler T&C that had a similar problem and it turned out to be moisture on one of the contacts in the passenger side front door. It took me awhile to isolate where the problem was coming from, but I finally found it. It took the door panel off and cleaned the cable contacts then sealed it with tape and replaced the covering over it that had been split. That solved the problem.
#310 of 629 1991 astro automatic trans up shift
Oct 11, 2005 (7:17 pm)
have a 1991 astro apr ox 250k, has had a trans cooler on it from my purchase when it had 10k. Second trans rebuilt at 100k, noticed this week trans does not up shift as quick to 3rd and 4th or not at all. Reverse works normal, take off and acceleration normal. wondering if electronics possible problem or does anyone know if this 700R4 has a counter weight like the old turbo 350 and 400's. thanks for any feed back

Check the adjustment on the tv cable that is attached to the throttle body. Haynes or chiltons manual will show you how to adjust. This cable tells the trans when to up or down shift depending on the position of the throttle.
#312 of 629 help -'97 Astro fuel pump noise
Oct 12, 2005 (12:19 pm)
I just purchased a '97 Astro that had a noisy fuel pump. The pump gave out a few weeks after I got it.
We pulled the tank and replaced the pump with a new one. It worked fine and only made a little noise.
The noise has gotten louder over the week since it's replacement. I fear that some thing is causing the pump damage and shorting it's life.
Anybody have any advice or knolage on this?
The noise changes pitch when I flip the heater fan switch from HI (witch doesn't work) to Med Hi (witch works half the time).
Is it possible that a short in the electrical system could be causing problems with the pump?

#315 of 629 2001 Chevrolet Venture problems
Oct 13, 2005 (6:05 am)
I also own one of those Ventures. There is always something wrong. We regret buying this van. We bought the van used with 33000 miles in Jan of 2002. Problems started happening a month or two after taking it home. The problems-the 2 front wheel bearings, tie rod, rear wiper blades don't work, the front driver's side wiper arm, temperture sensor, throttle position sensor, the driver's side window acts funny, pass. side is starting to act up too, no AC, drivers side sliding door doesn't lock and creaks when you open it, pass. side power sliding door works half of the time, panels on two of the doors coming loose, pass side mirror does not stay in place when you shut the door, the drivers side seat does not recline anymore, condensation in the driver's side head lamp, etc...... The most recent...battery light came on and now the van won't start. My husband is currently in another state with it at a service center. It is the altenator for $600. The thing is, we still owe way to much to even trade or sell it. Some of the minor problems we are living with. It seems like every problem is worth $400+. We just don't have the money to fix all of the problems. We had another vehicle a Saturn that had 368000 miles on it. The only major repair was the clutch. It was a good car. What will be the next problem? I don't want to know.

Just had my fuel pump go out. It's going to cost me $680 to replace it and the filter. Anyone else had this go out out of the blue?
#317 of 629 Best Used Astro?
Oct 17, 2005 (6:08 am)
I'm in the market for a small, RWD van, and it looks like Astro/Safai is it.
I saw one message that says get a '97 or newer - is this correct? I've also seen numerous issues owners have dealt with, but this is something I'll just have to deal with.
Anyway, since there seems to be no alternative to the Astro/Safari, what are the things I should be looking out for? I'm in CA, so I don't need/want AWD, and rust shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for any insights.

I hope that you have solved your problem by now. If not, you have to begin by removing the carpet trim that is actually under the closed door by using an offset screwdriver... it's a lot of fun. When the trim is removed and you pull the carpeting back, you can look underneath and see the screws that hold the lower part of the panel on. After these are removed the panel should be loose enought to figure out the rest. When the panel is off, you can reach in and pop the door open. With the door open, it's a sixty second repair. The dealership actually wanted over 90 dollars for the part, but it's available on line for about 12.
I'm on line tonight because, six months after fixing the right hand door, the left one broke and I'm looking for the place I bought the last handle.
