Hey E owners,

Does the E have enough get and and go? Can you merge on the freeway or does this thing accelerate like an old VW microbus?( I know, nothing is that slow) I have no desire to race anyone, but is the 2.4l big enough. I like the vehicle's size and interior but the engine size has me apprehensive. I guess I'll have to go drive one. Any comments would be helpful.

I don't own one but I test drove a 5 speed. I was impressed by the way it was geared, and don't think I would have as much problems getting on a freeway as I do now in my 4-banger, 2WD Tacoma. I don't know about the automatic, though my neighbor doesn't have a problem with theirs (auto, AWD).

Best thing to do is test for yourself. Also, take it up a hill.

Pros and Cons by ateixeira

CR-V has a lot of pros: 1 more passenger capacity, more payload, less weight, better fuel efficiency, quicker, more clearance, easier to let out rear seat passengers, full size spare. The rear has a table so you can change your twin babies' diapers.

Element costs less, has 16" rims, sportier suspension tuning, and draws MUCH more attention. The interior can be wiped clean, the seats come out entirely, and you can open the sides wide. The rear roof opens so you can change out of your wet suit.

Basically the CR-V is family oriented, while the Element is outdoor sports oriented, more for empty nesters and swinging singles.

This may be the case with a lot of folks, but basically I prefer the Element by far but would have my needs better met by a CR-V.

Just my 2 cents'.

"Those doors are dangerous"

Well, the Escape (sans airbags) shares the same poor IIHS ratings as the Element using traditional doors. So do a few others. I guess regular doors aren't safe either.

You'll need to find a vehicle with gull-wings.

Superb_herb - My sister and brother-in-law went through the same process. They ended up with the CR-V (5 speed EX). My brother-in-law's theory was that you can always dress up the 'V with aftermarket gear. Of course, now my sister won't let him...

Just get a model with side air bags. That's really what the test showed - the value of those.

Couldn't agree with you more, Juice. Love the Element, but the 4 passenger capacity, awkward rear doors/seatbelt arrangement, heavier body, poorer fuel economy and gigantic rear legroom/small cargo area tradeoff would probably force me into a CR-V. Here's hoping the next generation CR-V has some of the Element's personality (and a similar rear hatch arrangement as well).

Personally I hope the next 'SUV' Honda shows is a Honda-badged TSX wagon, maybe with a tiny bit of height added. . . sportier than the Element, as much room as the CR-V, and priced similarly. . .

I do wish the Element was just a tad longer though; they could have kept the length the same as the CR-V, and dropped the roof as much as necessary to keep weight down, and it would be almost perfect

TSX wagon would be nice and I agree, it does need a bit of height added....current euro-accord wagon looks a bit "hearse-like" to me. As the TSX sedan is priced about 6 grand more than the CR-V in Canada, I wouldn't count on a similar price to the CR-V, though.
I also agree that the Element should've matched the CR-V for length. 4 conventional doors (or even sliders....it IS a utility vehicle, you know)
and a b-pillar would eliminate the "extra reinforcement" weight of the current version.
Let's face it, if you want to load anything boxy or bulky, the rear hatch is the way to go, unless you want to remove the front seats.

Well that's why I thought rebadge it, maybe even swap out the engine/trans for the base RSX ones, it would still be a nice vehicle. Or heck, even with the american Accord engines, as long as they keep the smaller TSX platform and sporty suspension. But I figure until something like that Does pop up the E's my best bet. (I know there's a VW option here, but reliability spooks me off that one)

Will have an "A" on the grill, not an "H"...

The concept "Dual Note" uses hybrid style power plant to have very good power/acceleration & economy. It will probably have styling like the TSX (i.e. some what of a "wedge") but perhaps with a green house more like the MDX (as opposed to the "upright" greenhouse(s) of the CRV, Pilot, Element) to avoid looking like a Matrix/Vibe...
