#225 of 770 Email from Mazda USA on availability
Jan 23, 2004 (4:03 pm)
I sent the following email yesterday:
I am going to be purchasing a Mazda 6 5-door as soon as
it is available for order by the dealers in my area. Can you give me an
approximate date, when I should be able to place this order. Thanks
I received this response today.
Thanks for contacting Mazda.
I am happy to hear of your interest in the MAZDA6 5-door. This vehicle
is scheduled to start production in early March 2004. Normally the
vehicles can be ordered several weeks in advance. I am researching
this with the Distribution Department and as soon as I receive a more
specific answer I will e-mail you back and let you know.
Again, thank you for contacting Mazda. It has been my pleasure to
assist you. Please feel free to reply to this message with any further
questions or comments.

In other words, she didn't really know and was just guessing, or she's got production confused with delivery.
I think we've already received info that the first production for the 5-door is end of Jan and deliveries of these will be late Feb or early March.
Dealers already know what they have inbound for the first deliveries.

jeff.....mazda6 is correct. We started ordering the h/b a couple months ago. The only thing we dont have yet is solid MSRP/invoice numbers. Mazda is famous for waiting for the last minute to give us solid numbers. But we have draft numbers, which are usually close. I am expecting the first car towards the end of Feb.

We sure appreciate your help. And coming from a dealer-basher like me, that's a compliment.

Does anybody recognize the city in the background? (hint: the two tallest buildings)
Or is that just a fake backdrop?

Thansk for you answers...I finally figured out how to ask the question the right way, and got the answer Id been looking for. They can place the order as long as Im comfortable not having the exact price ahead of time.
I guess this as another lesson in communication.

All MAZDA6 5-Door feature 17-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels and 215/50R17 V-rated all season tires as standard and both have height-adjustable head rests at all four positions.
All MAZDA6 5-Doors come standard with a sport package, which in addition to 17-inch wheels includes aggressive front and rear fascias, integrated fog lights, side sill extensions, rear wing, oval-tipped exhaust outlets and titanium-look power window switch panels. All 5-Doors also have a body-colored sport grille and rear wiper/washer.Standard seat-mounted side-impact airbags protect the chest, neck and head of front occupants. An optionally available side-curtain airbag system adds additional protection from side impacts for both front and rear occupants and deploys from the outer edges of the headliner.

The press release you quoted is misleading with respect to the SAB/SAC option on the 5-door, and your paraphrasing made it even more misleading.
For the 5-door, SAB and SAC are optional, part of the Security Package on the 'i' model and a stand-alone option on the 's' model (subject to allowable option combos).
The Wagon may be different though, I don't know about that. They may have actually made SAB standard on the Wagon with SAC as an option, though this doesn't make much sense and doesn't fit with Mazda's option packaging as far as I've seen.
