Have side airbags in them. If you opt for the option, you get the R/T seats, not the Viper ones. -B |

To those who have driven the SRT-4 and driven it hard, what is the first modification you would make? Would you have the suspension upgraded? Would it be the performance? Would you even bother having a short shifter installed? As I have stated previously, the SRT-4 would be my daily driver. I want to add that the SRT-4 would see some track time and I have hopes of going to the Southwest to drive in a legal highway race. All modifications would be done by a Dodge dealer. Any and all replies greatly appreciated. |

As with anything else, how fast or how good you want to handle/race will depend on how much money you want to spend. Something like the Rage big turbo kit will increase the hp/torque to over 300, at a cost of around $2400. But to me, the car is plenty fast as is. It needs more handling things than outright speed things. If it were me, based on your comments about it being a daily driver and still seeing some occasional track time, I'd concentrate first on handling. Get a front and rear strut tower bar, lowering springs (coilovers are too expensive), and larger diameter or bigger wheels. The brakes are fine as is for most street applications. Be warned however that the springs and strut tower bars will make the car VERY stiff for everyday street use. You'll feel every little ripple in the pavement with that setup. But I would imagine on a track it would handle as if on the proverbial rails. I'd replace the stock filter with either a K&N drop-in or Uni foam drop-in, and route a cold air hose from the front up into the stock airbox. http://njsr.org/pics/thumbnails.php?album=114 This link has pics of some of the mods I've done to my car. Good luck...

I just noticed on the literature about the mods the salesman sent me is the notice that all the performance mods cannot be sold for cars licensed for highway use. Oh, well. |
Umm, yes they can. Except for the unreleased Stage III which does away with the cat. -B |

| Than explain why the literature says they can't? | |
| It doesn't say they "cannot be sold for cars licensed for highway use". It says they are "Not legal for sale or use on pollution controlled motor vehicles". It's just a way for them to cover their butts in reference to smog legality. | |
| I will have to bring the literature to work so I can make an exact quote. Granted it does not say (exactly) cannot be sold, but it says more than what you have indicated. There is a provision about it not being legal for cars licensed for highway use. | |
"Not legal for sale or use on pollution controlled motor vehicles." A majority (I'd say 90%) of all performance parts say the same exact thing, sold by the factory or aftermarket. Only really important issue is making sure the cat(s) are happy and are doing their job cleaning the exhaust. Some states do visible inspection of equipment, but they aren't going to find a new chip, larger injectors, new cam, turbo, etc... -B |

I am on my lunch hour and I accidently left the literature in my department, but it also says or vehicles licensed for highway use. I didn't put quotes around because I cannot be sure it is exact, but I am very confident it is close. To me, this says that it isn't illegal for me to buy the mods even though my car will be licensed for highway use, but it is illegal for the dealership to sell them to me. Now I don't know the potential consequences, but if I were a dealer and breaking this rule/law meant the loss of my dealership, I would not be selling the parts if illegal. I guess I will just have to ask my dealer how they interpret the wording. |
