#576 of 3411 FX35/45 RECALL
May 29, 2003 (7:13 am)
Some of you have probably seen a posted list of VIN no's at another site. I too had seen these and was put at ease, since mine was not on there. After looking at the Infiniti website today, I called my dealer to verify my car's status. He reported that it needs to have the bolts replaced, but they do not yet have any in stock. Sure makes you wonder who is right and which information to believe. To be sure, I will schedule an appointment as soon as they recieve bolts.
Below is an excerpt of what they had posted on the Infiniti website:

Reason for Recall
The bolts which attach the propeller shaft(s) to the transaxle and differetial(s) may not have been adequately tightened. If the bolts come loose, the propeller shaft(s) may come off the vehicle which could result in a crash without warning.

Thankfully, my FX45's vin # isn't one of them. I wonder if Nissan/Infiniti would send out a letter to you if your vehicle is among those recalled. (I received similar such letter from BMW when my X5 had recall problems). Well, being that this the first model year for the FX, I'm not surprised....usually takes a couple years to get all the "bugs" out. (The 2000 and 2001 X5's had a flood of serious problems before things got better).

Nissan does send recall letters to owners of vehicles affected by a recall. I received one for my Altima last year.

I called Infiniti Customer Service, 1-800-662-6200, and asked them about the recall. They did verify that the recall effects 164 vehicles and by giving them my VIN no, they were able to tell me that my vehicle was not effected.
Yesterday, my dealer was confused and told me my vehicle needed new bolts! I told this to Infiniti and they are going to resend them the message along with the 164 vehicles so maybe they will be better informed when the next person calls them.
If in doubt, call Infiniti or wait for the recall letter.

#581 of 3411 Changes to the FX for 2004
May 30, 2003 (4:34 pm)
I'd like to get an FX with just the nav system -can't justify the price of the Tech Pkg and would never use the rear entertainment. Anybody heard anything about changes to the car for 2004? I called a couple of dealers who did not know anything for sure. One had heard a rumor that the tech package will be eliminated so that you could get the nav system by itself. Anybody know if this is true? Thanks in advance.
#582 of 3411 FX45 vs Cayenne S
May 30, 2003 (4:37 pm)
I tested both in the last 2 weeks.
I was very impressed with both, the torque on the Cayenne is the main difference in performance even tho its a lot heavier.
Both drive great so don't believe all you read about the Porsche, possible "knocking the guy on top" syndrome.
Styling is very subjective, both are a little odd right now because they are new, in 2 years perhaps not.
I am having an extended drive of a 45/tech soon and will most probably get it, HOWEVER, the main reason is price. If they call me in the next couple of weeks with a dream of a deal on an S with Nav, I would take it. It is the better vehicle, note "better" not "nicer".
Both wipe the of the X5 and ML500 which are OLD vehicles. My current ride is a ML430.

The best quote on an FX45 with tech here in San Diego with $2500 Cap Cost Reduction/Drive-off is $840 a month and Negotiated price of $49,500.
Up in the NE, your dealers are quoting a very low Money Factor, well under .0020. Sounds like a great deal and just over what a 35 with tech would be here.
Do you know the term, miles per year, residual and MF?
#584 of 3411 Just Picked Up My New FX35...
May 30, 2003 (6:30 pm)
Just traded in my 2000 Lexus LX470 for an FX35 w/ Tech(actually cut the deal 2 weeks ago, but just picked up yesterday)...Some preliminary observations:
*The performance of this car is outstanding...handles like a dream, and the acceleration is great. Yes, I'm coming out of a "slow" LX470, but prior to it, I had a Lexus GS430 (0-60 in 5.9 seconds).
*I do not find the ride overly harsh, at all. It actually rides much smoother and quieter, than I had anticipated.
*Although the Tech Package is a steep option, in my opinion, it's well worth it. Aside from Nav & DVD, the rear camera and the intelligent key are great features. The Bose Stereo is super...just a slight notch below the Levinson I had in my GS430.
*Interior trim is very high quality. Seats and driving position are very comfortable.
*The Diamond Graphite color looks phenomenal, both in daylight and nightime. I was also considering briliant silver, but am very happy I went with DG.
*This car has an amazing "Gawk" feature, just as the adds claim. For my 1st 2 days driving it, I could not believe how many people just stared this car down, intensely. I just came back from running to the grocery store and there was a young adult, literally, twisting out of his passenger seat a red light to check out the car.
Needless to say, 2 days in, I'm thrilled with my purchase. I had also considered a GX470, Aviator, Volvo XC90 and even a Cayenne, but am convinced more than ever I made the right choice.

Congratulations on your purchase, and glad you are liking it so far. I was a little surprised at your favorable comments on the ride quality, considering you are coming from the LX470 which in comparison has a very "cushy" ride. As you may have read in other posts above, I found the ride to be very harsh until I checked the big 20 inch tires and found them to be overinflated - once lowered to the recommended 32 psi the ride improved considerably.
I did not get the Tech Package on my FX45 but I have to admit that the backup camera would be nice to have, due to the somewhat restricted view out the back when backing up. I am taking extra care however, using the side mirrors more than ususal in addition to the rear window, which is partially obstructed by the rear seat headrests. I am taking great pains to not hit anything, as I want to keep the beautiful body and my black paint free of blemishes for as long as humanly possible! In just 5 weeks I've already waxed it three times!
Did you get the brick interior?
