Hank and NSS 167, thanks for your good advice. I'm amazed at the results so far. Again, this is for a 2004 Camry XLE V6 with leather heated seats and the stability/side airbags package (in effect, a below market Lexus ES300). Recall that the Consumer Reports invoice (not MSRP) came out at $25,136. And this was after subtracting the $506 dealer holdback (just another form of profit in my view). Merely by sitting at my friendly computer and following your advice, I've come up with the following offers. Carsdirect.com $26,998 Modern Toyota - Winston-Salem 26,441 Miller Toyota - Manannas VA 25,433 Ourisman Toyota- Fredricksberg 25,218 The MSRP is just under $29,000. I'm going to work a bit more on the price, but a low $25,000 number sounds pretty good. Prices are definitely lower in Northern Virginia, and they are more accustomed to Internet sales. Thanks again. Tony4- Congratulations. Keep us posted as to your observations and experience with the car, and how well you like it. You got a great price. Johnfromnc- You should probably just bite on the offer from Ourisman. I highly doubt you will be able to find another dealership willing to go much below that figure. Is another hundred or two dollars really worth the added search cost? (Especially if you can have the color of your choice from Ourisman). I am actually VERY surprised that carsdirect.com is tracking as far off the dealer offers that it is- are you inputing the zip code of the dealerships that you will be shopping? (Toyotas incentives vary by region). For what its worth, carsdirect.com shows the combination you detailed (Premium Pkg+VSC+Side SRS) in the Greater NY region for $25,043 (MSRP $28,755). I think when using carsdirect.com, you may have actually chosen the Navigation Pkg instead of the Premium Pkg? ~alpha

Take a look on darcars.com and see the internet specials on the rockville dealer (a.k.a 355 Toyota in Rockville) . I see that they have 3 cars with the options you describe ( VSC, Side Curtains and heated seats etc.) Price listed is $23601 plus freight and $100 processing plus taxes/tags. It might be worth taking a look. |

Replying to: alpha01 (Apr 12, 2004 3:26 pm) When I used the Northern Virginia zip code, where Ourisman and Miller are located, the carsdirect price came down to $25,924, a rather significant difference. About half of the difference reflects the higher rebate in Northern Virgina ($1000 v. $500 in NC). What's your guess as where the rest of the difference comes from? Lower sales volume per dealership down here in NC? Thanks again. John |

| I'm looking to buy a 2004 camry xle with the following options:premium plus pkg.,preferred accessory pkg.,heated seats,and drivers/passengers side-curtain airbags. The quote I got from a local dealer in central Connecticut was 23,050 including a $1000 rebate,before taxes.the list price was 26,746.Does anyone think this is a good quote? | |

I am looking for a camry 2004 LE with moonroof, ABS, and Carpet floor and Trunck Mat set. I got the quotes from two main local dealer are both $20,000 excluding tax and rebates. The invoice price for this car is $19,810, and MSRP is 21774. So at last the Drive-out price will be $20,847($1,000 rebate, $1,650 tax, and other DMV fees). I am in Rochester, NY. So, do you guys think the price is reasonable? Is lower price, say $19,500 before tax and rebate, possible? Thanks |

Welcome to the boards. After your Camry purchases, let us know how you like your cars. To get an idea of how your deal stacks up against others, you should try visiting carsdirect.com, input your zip code, and configure the car identically to the one you will be buying. This will show you the Invoice price of the car, and what carsdirect.com (one of the largest internet sales venues) would sell the car for. Monoclone, for your situation, to compare it to the $20,000 you were quoted before tax and rebate, you will want to add the $1000 back to the "carsdirect.com price" to see if your $20K offer is better or worse than what you could get on the internet. If its worse, you can print the page and use it as a bargaining chip if you so choose. Note though, that sometimes, a difference of 100 or 200 dollars may not be worth the haggling effort (at least not in my opinion). Best of luck. ~alpha |

| alpha1,I checked out carsdirect and found that the price they quoted on the camry xle was $23,277.The dealer quote of $23,050 is a little bit better.Do you think I should take that offer? Any input would be a help to me. Thanks, cheech. | |
| I just visited Carsdirect. They gave me 20472 before $1000 rebate. So According to you, the dealers' prices are both acceptable. I will haggle with the salesman tomorrow to see if I can have a lower price. I will definitely share my experience here. Anyway, this is my first time buying a car. | |

Cheech, if you're happy, I say go for it. Let us all know what color you chose, and your initial impressions. Monoclone- Personally, I feel you are getting a good price from your dealer, based on the fact that carsdirect.com is showing a sales price $400 greater than your dealer quote. You can press for lower pricing, but I think it might only net you another 100 or 200 dollars tops, which may or may not be worth it to you. ~alpha |
