2009 SE 4 w/ auto numbers by tbird

Here is what I paid for a white 09 SE with automatic mats and spoiler.

    Total purchase price was 21,666.42
Dealer Doc which they wanted 499 and got them down to 100.00
    Total 21,766.42
Add TTT and I was on my way.
Big kicker was that they did give me 1,000 more on trade in on my beaten up 03 with 150K on it and deer fur still in the right headlight from an encounter my wife had Monday morning. Once I added my insurance settlement the deal was even sweeter but that wasn't part of the transaction from the dealer. Also qualified for the 1.9% interest for 36 months so came out OK there too. For those in Georgia I purchased at Butler Toyota in Macon great people and I was in and out with the transaction in just over two hours (a record for me). It's a locator car so will be back on Monday to pick it up. PM me for the salespersons name and I will be glad to turn you on to him. Nice guy but you have to have your homework done to get the best deal as they will not give it to you.

Trying to decide: 08 or 09? CE or LE? by jo14

We are looking to buy a 4 cylinder Toyota Camry but can't make up our mind whether to go with the 08 or 09 LE . We test drove the 09 but not the 08. Also should we consider the CE - there doesn't seem to be any big difference for what we want. Would love to hear any advice or suggestions.

By the way, I have no trade and do not need financing from dealer. (I'm selling my 2002 6 cylinder Camry LE to my brother for my niece)

When I searched Edmunds for the TMV for the 08 LE I got: MSRP = 21,735, Invoice = 19,520 and TMV = 19,977. That calculates to $457 over invoice.

Didn't get a TMV for the 09 LE - MSRP = 21,225, Invoice = 19,655.

Would the deal be better for the 08 than the 09?

What should we offer as a starting offer price?

Again, thanks!

Check out www.fitzmall.com, as by looking at their online inventory and details of their pricing you can get a really good idea of a target to shoot for at your local dealership. They are in a competitive area of the country, so other areas of the country (except for CA which would be even more competitive) would expect to be more....but at least it's a reference for you.

Depending on how long and the kind of miles you do the model year can make a big difference. For example on my 09 SE the differenc between the 08 and 09 when I looked at my old trade in 03 vs. 04 was around 12 to 14 hundred dollars for usage of 150K miles. So when we looked new the 08 and 09's had the same incentive we were looking for, low financing, so they would have had to make up the difference which was moot as they couldn't find the car equiped the way we wanted. So we went with the 09.

Just something else to consider.

Who would pay $1400 more to have a one year newer model year of an older used car with the exact same mileage once the car has that many miles when there is zero difference in features, warranty or styling? That makes no sense for someone looking for a good deal on a used car.
If there was even a small styling change/improvement and some new features and options not available on the 2008s, it would be different.
The Camry is due for the mid-cycle update that will probably tweak the front and rear styling and add a few new features. In that case a 2009 vs 2010 will make a difference.
If it was late in the year, I would also go for a 2009, but since it's only April, a 2008 would be normal to expect.
A 2009 purchased early in the year will likely have higher than typical expected miles for it's year at resale that will counteract some of the model year value. That plus the $1000 rebate, plus the fact that the dealers will make better deals to move out the 2008s should more than make up any resale difference on a car purchased this early in the calendar year.

One thing in the 08 vs 09 debate is that the financing incentive in the southeast is the same for either years. 1K without financing is only available on 08's. Used car numbers are what they are especially when you have high miles but at least as far as Edmunds fingures are concerned they hold up. Now what happens 4 or 5 years down the line that is what we don't know but we can look back on historical values as represented by info we have available.

Is this a good deal?.

I purchased a 2009 camry LE, with no options for $19404 including destination from a PA dealer + NJ tax and governemt fees. 48 months financing at 3.9%. No trade in.

I showed the quote from Fitzmall.com and they matched it.

Thanks to you all and Edmunds.

CE same as LE, except no power driver's seat and no keyless entry.

You can add keyless for $150 or so.

Hybrid Value in 5 years?? by unrevealable

Hi, I'm seriously considering a TCH but have heard some FUD that the batteries can cost $10,000 to replace and only last 5 years or so.

I'm wondering, if the battery needs to be replaced in 5-10 years...and I'm assuming that it's somewhere greater than $3,000 to replace...will I be left with a worthless hunk of tin in 5+ years when I'm looking to sell it or trade it in?

Thanks for your help!

It was reasonable to be concerned about hybrid battery replacement costs in the early days of the first hybrid model, the Prius. Much less so now. Today, there are Prius cars with 200K miles and the batteries are still working OK, although probably at a reduced level. I know of no reason why the TCH should peform different.

All hybrid components are guaranteed for 8yrs/100K miles, including the battery (longer in some states).

The Prius model has been out long enough now for us to know if this was a serious problem. So far, it isn't.
