I don't believe a "build date" is available until the car is set up and in the computers at the factory. That could be a while.

They can check the status since "build date" is not the only trackable milestone.

I'm guessing they would consider it a pain if you keep calling, so just ask when you get info from them what is the next milestone and how long does that usually take. If they tell you three weeks before they know anything then calling every week would indeed make you a pain to deal with.

I can't imagine you getting one "built to order" in less than 2 months. Although they could possibly find one like your order or close and "trade" with another dealer.

I'm not sure where you're at but I just dropped off my TCH for service and Buckhannon Auto mall in WV had about 7 or 8 Camry's on the lot (including a TCH)

I ordered new car before my existing car broke down so I already singed an agreement with them. I agree with you that if my car had been broken at the time of putting the order, it would not have been a smart idea.
You have described exactly what I do not want to do- call them every week and upset them.

As for the trade with another dealership, I would not mind but I do not want them try to get my car from another dealership for 2-3 month and only then put a factory order. This is exactly what I am trying to avoid.

I am in NY, NJ area. I ordered just V6 Le without any extras but I have ordered it from the Japan. The dealer that I have dealt with had about 6 in the lot as well ( 2 from them were LE’s but they all were from the Kentucky plant).

Extended warranties usually start the day you buy them. On a new car they will run concurrently with your factory warranty so they don't add as much coverage as they seem to do. Buy one when your factory warranty is about to expire, and use the Internet to shop around. Also be aware that unless you buy it from your manufacturer (Toyota) it is simply an insurance policy and is only as good as the company behind it. Warranty Gold was once a big provider of extended warranties, and it went out of business. I don't believe its many customers ever got any money back.

I have ordered it from the Japan

Interesting, I didn't realize you had an option. Then again I didn't realize any Camry's other than the Hybrid came from Japan.

I would not let them "look" for a car from other dealers for more than a day or so. I'd simply ask them to check and see if there is one available. They can do that in a couple of hours. If they are as hot as it seems in some areas they are not getting stuck with something they can't easily get rid of or trade off to another dealer.

Thanks for the reply. This is exactly what I am trying to prevent- for dealer to “look” for a car from other dealers more then 1-2 days. That is why I thought, if you are ordering something, you should have an order #. With that order # I would be able in the future to double check with Toyota USA what exactly was ordered, what was ordered and so on.

They stop Camry’s production in Japan this December or January of next year. Most of the time I have seen XLE with lots of extra packages build in Japan.

2 of 6 dealers that I have been contacted refused to make a Camry order from Japan. From the rest of them this one was the most honest and cooperative one (even thought I would probably could get it $200-300 cheaper from the other dealership).

I honestly think you have little to no chance of getting this car. I went through the "custom ordering" process back in April. It took 13 weeks to get a V6SE w/ NAV & most other options. The dealer said Toyota required a signed order and deposit to get a car "preferenced". This meant that the dealer would have first preference for getting the vehicle when it was built. When the factory was finally scheduled to run a line that would produce vehicles similar to my order the dealer was given a tentative build week. That took about six weeks.

If they can "dealer trade" for a car similar to what you want they may do so. It could be for a car on someone's lot, or for a car scheduled to arrive at another dealership.

Your request for a Japanese made vehicle is not realistic (based on many discussions w/ the GM at my dealership - who proved to be right on with everything he offerred and promised). By the way, our KY built loaded V6SE has been flawless for the first 5k miles.

I have a Camry XLE I4 on order with Fitz Mall. The salesman was upfront with me.... he told me that he would first check to see if he had one coming in a future allocation, then he would look to trade another dealer for the car... if those two avenues failed he would place an order. After about 4 days of unsuccessful searching he sent me an email with an Toyota order number and an estimated build date and an estimated delivery date.

The car is supposed to be built next week and delivered the following week. I will let you know how it turns out.

blindmantoo , thank you for your reply. I am curious why you say that I have little to no chance of getting a custom order if you went through one yourself? The difference is that yours had lots of extras and mines just a basic one only from the specific location. I already singed papers with the dealer and made $500 deposit. I honestly do not see why is it unrealistic to get it from Japan? What’s a difference? Besides it is a basic V6 LE no extras so it should not take too long to build. If my dealer (after placing an order) can trade one that I want from another dealership- that is fine.

tjoost, thanks for the info.
I got a phone call from the dealer yesterday and he stated that order still not places, they were trying to do an allocation and see what was coming to the sister dealerships. I would not mind them to look but I think that 1 week should be more them enough to collect that information.
You have answered my question: so, after placing an order it have to be an order # and estimate production date.
I hope that your car would arrive shortly. Do you know where is it assembled?

My salesman indicated the car is built in Georgetown, KY. He sent the note below explaining the process which was followed up by a note a couple of days later with the factory order number......

==========================================================

Dear Mr. XXXX:

Thank you ordering your new Camry. I appreciate being allowed the opportunity to earn your business.

This is to confirm your order for a 2007 Toyota Camry XLE in Black (0202) with Bisque leather interior (LA40) and equipped as shown below.

MSRP for this vehicle is expected to be $28,230, and your Delivered Internet Price would then be $25,612 plus tax, tag fees, and the optional $99 tag processing fee. If you choose our Delivered Value Price (with every second oil change free, free loaner car for life, and 10% discount on parts and service), your price will be $369 more.

Your order is subject to availability and subject to any prices changes by the manufacturer. We will be obtaining the vehicle either from the inventory of another Toyota dealer in the area or directly from the factory. Your actual Delivered Internet Price will be Invoice plus $200 plus tax, tag, and processing.

You have authorized us to charge $100 to your Visa account # xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-x656 as a fully refundable deposit on your order, and I understand that you will be submitting a partial on-line credit application this morning.

As I receive information on the status of your Camry, I will pass this along to you. Factory orders for the 2007 Camry are currently taking from two to ten weeks, with four to five weeks being typical.

Again, thank you very much for your order and for the opportunity to work with you. I look forward to meeting with you in a few weeks with your new Camry.

Warm regards,

Fitzgerald Auto Malls
