Applied via email to 6 dealers in the Greenville, SC metro area on Sept. 6th. Asked for only base version since I already have laptop based navigation. All dealers replied with standard quotes at MSRP or well above it. But surprisingly one of the highest standard quotes came back later with a personalized quote that agreed to give me the TCH for what I asked for, namely $25,000 + $580 destination charge + $39 tag fee. No documentation fee as I had clearly stated that I will not pay it. These were based on old Edmunds invoice prices. I emailed the local dealer for a price match but got no reply. Went on 9th to test drive the car. Titanium color. Liked it and had 18 miles on it. Internet manager told me they had another one arriving on 26th. Signed agreement to purchase it if they could deliver by the 30th. Got call on September 22nd stating that the car had arrived. Went on 23rd and paid by check and drove the car home. Only nagging feeling was lack of heated mirrors since it tends to get frosty her in wintertime (no snow). But did not want to push my luck and asking for it and not having it delivered in time. At home I saw the window sticker under the passenger seat and it had the heated mirrors as the extra installed option (what a stroke of luck). So it appears that I had gotten a vehicle $900 under MSRP and there was a $40 less on destination charge since they calculated using old rates, and a free $30 option. The total time for initial visit was 45 minutes and the delivery of vehicle and signing papers took 45 minutes. The car had 2 miles on it and smelled good. I have used it for 75 miles so far with no major problems. I have managed to avail myself of the federal tax credit of $2600 and SC tax credit of 20 % of it ($520) for a total of $3150. This makes this $22400 car cheaper than many basic Camrys even if you add all the options. SC dealers seemed to have basic hybrids on their lots and are selling at or below MSRP. I got mine for Dave Edwards Toyota of Spartanburg, SC. Email the internet manager. It was a very professional experience to deal with him and he is a very friendly guy.

| where is a good site to go to buy a Camry online? I may try for the SE since someone posted it comes with the spoiler and the alloy wheels. Can anyone tell me a website for online buying..I know you can get everything cheaper online. Has anyone done that? Or should I just fax the local dealers? | |

Is it reasonable to be able to order a specific car from a dealer? and are cars actually made to order or would it always have to come from stock somewhere in the country? I'm looking for a Camry LE Magnetic Grey with only the Vehicle Stability package? Should there be any price differential for an inventory car versus a "special order"? thanks, |

Mine also has options of leather, heated mirrors, sunroof and NAV, so anything a loaded one has besides those are standard. Spoiler is a dealer (or port) add on and not a factory option for the TCH |

Mine also has options of leather, heated mirrors, sunroof and NAV, so anything a loaded one has besides those are standard. To elaborate a bit further on wygasguy’s post, the Hybrid has traction and stability control as standard features to control the massive surge of energy at start up from the combination of the electric motor and gas engine ( from what I read). This is not available in many Camry models and costs a bit if added on to. The keyless ignition is part of the Smart Key system, the feature I appreciate most. Placing the hand behind the door handle on driver or passenger’s side opens the car (with the FOB being in your pocket or purse) and locking the car is just a push of button on the door handle. No need to take out the key or remote at all. Regarding options, I did not want leather seats since it can be pain in the ass (pun intended) in the hot South Carolina summers. I have that experience on my Odyssey. I hardly use the moon roof in that vehicle or heated seats and hence it was not needed on my Camry. I got heated mirrors for free. I would have liked a bigger energy monitor than what is on the base model that does not have the NAV but I do not want GPS navigation. I have laptops (they are inexpensive at $399 after rebate) with gps receivers and 2 programs (Streets and Trips & iGuidance) loaded on to them and the navigation capability is excellent. Besides each year’s disk of Streets costs only $25 at Sam’s club so upgrade is very cheap. The con is that the laptop cannot be placed as good as position as the NAV of the vehicle but I need gps only for long distance travel and in those times I usually have a free front passenger seat or my wife holds the laptop when needed. |
