Price on 2006 Camry LE demo by kingcie

I've been thinking about getting a new (2006) Camry, and have a question on what some people think would be reasonable... There is a dealer that my family has dealt with several times in NY, and the sales person has been great (with 3 previous purchases). The question I have at this point is that they have a 2006 Camry LE with curtain airbags, and sunroof options (about $2k extra). It is being driven by a manager there right now, and has about 4500 or so miles on it. They are trying to sell it as a "new" car, and are at about invoice $20,000 or (just under).

My sales person says that he doesn't even like the price and would be getting back to me. I told him to remind the manager that 07's are out and the car I'm interested in has some miles on it already... Regardless of any rebate on the car ($1500 I think currently in NY), I'm wondering what the opinion is out there of what a fair price should be since it is "used" with 4500 miles on it. I'm thinking that they should be coming down a bit, maybe another $1000-1500 or so since the car is already depreciated in value due to having miles on it. Also, what about the "destination" charge, should I be able to negotiate that off as well since the car isn't new? You don't see that on on used cars.

Obviously, I'm trying to get the best price I can but won't pay invoice for a car with 4500 miles on it. I could see if it was an '06 leftover, but I would think that they would want to move this car sometime soon... I would probably pay closer to the invoice price if they changed out the wheels and put alloys on it, but we haven't discussed that yet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Most domestic cars depreciate faster than Hondas and Toyotas. 18 - 20% depreciation the first year is about the norm in wholesale car business realms, so a Toyota might be 15% depreciation the first year. Since the 2007's are on the street, it is a 1 year old demo, period. A fair offer is sticker price - 18% - $.18 per mile with proof of an oil change. Your offer: Sticker x .82 - (.18 x 4500 miles). If they say no, let them sell it to some uniformed buyer, but who knows how long it will take for that person to show up at the dealership. In about 1 year from now you will have a 2 year old car if you bought this one, just ask anyone who has a 2005 Toyota Camry who is trying to trade it right now for a 2007 Camry.

XXX, the Toyota dealership in Decatur, IL, has located a car for me with the desired features, but it is an XLE which is a reasonable substitute. Here is the config and price that he has given me. Can you match or beat this price and configuration?
HD: heated seats
NV: navigation
SK: smart key entry
VS: vehicle stability control with traction control
CF: carpeted floormats
RF: rear spoiler

MSRP: $31,298
Your Price: $29,392 plus tax, title, and lic.

So... almost $2k off MSRP
Is this a good deal? I had my local dealer match plus the promise of a loaner car for the day when I bring the car in for Service.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully the dealer will realize this as well when they give me another price, or when I counter-offer to them.

Price paid for 07 SE 4-cyl. by calipso27

I posted this earlier in another thread...

I went out and test drove the new SE 4-cyl. this week and was quite impressed.
Overall I loved the new look and enjoyed how it rode, plus it's got some nice new features.

I compared the Subaru Legacy 2.5i, Honda Accord EX-L and the new Camry SE. Each I like for different reasons, but in the end I got the best deal on the Camry. I ended up getting a quote on an SE in Magnetic Gray w/ Charcoal cloth (included spoiler, JBL speakers, mats, alloy wheels and moonroof) for only $300 above invoice - which was around $2,680 off the MSRP. How does this compare with others prices? Did I get a middle of the road deal or come out ahead?

I was pleased with the dealer I got the quote from - no nonsense. I asked for their lowest price and they delivered it without an hassle. However, now that I am asking if they can add on another option or two they are balking at the sale??? I'm unsure of why I am getting so many different answers from different dealers....

Any comments on what others are getting as far as MPG with their new SE?

Sounds like you got a great price on the SE, much better that I have found. Is this dealer anywhere close to Missouri??
