In Boston area, I have seen dealers doing this -
They negotiate the price around the invoice price. If there is rebate they subtratc that from invoice and the price finalised is used for tax calculation. So, the rebates are set off before calculation of tax.

I dont think this should be regional but am not sure.

Thanks for clearing my doubts. I am new to this game.
I live in Fort Wayne. And I must warn against going to FW Toyota to buy. they are real low high pressured dealers. they claimed they can match any price in chicago and when I show them, they would not.!!!

BTW, what is CF option? I check the official toyota.com and could not find this option.

mine is just plain jane LE auto, 4 mats included.

Curios,

I went to the dealership yesterday.
They have given me a price of 17500 online as OTD.
2006 Camry LE I4

At the dealership the manager started playing the
same old game:
It seems they forgot to add DMV and Doc fee into the price.
He was asking 242 for DMV and 200 for Doc fee.
That takes the OTD to 17950 approximately.

I negotiated saying I Would pay 17750
But the dealer wanted me to pay the 17950.

I did not feel like doing business with them as they were
not at all negotiationg on the price.

That's it. I told the dealer Good Bye... and I was
out of there.
The dealership is Route22Toyota, NJ.

Hope this helps.....

Get it in writing, line by line and signed before you go into the dealer. Email or Fax.

Avoid the aggravation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a great price. I appreciate if you could share dealer's contact info.

I have a test drive for 2006 and 2007, I like 2007 model.

I am in Dallas/TX and just got a quote from Toyota of Dallas for 2007 Camry CE with The Extra Mile Option Package A (Carpet Mat Set, keyless entry...) and tint window. Price they gave me is 19,999 and dealer told me that is $500 over invoice.

In NY- the rebate (ends march 31) is $1500 and the taxable amount is AFTER the rebate is deducted (you do not get taxed for the $1500).
Had a helluva time finding a base (no sunroof, etc)2006 Camry LE this week in a decent color (most dealers are completely out and only offering the 2007).
The range quoted(after you include the rebate) was anywhere from 17,500-$18,500. Of course, once I went into several dealerships they started to play games and either didn't have anymore cars or tacked on more $$$$.

In my experience, they ALL add in the CF option (floor mats and cargo net)...so taking into account the dwindling supply of 06's- some dealers were completely out, I jumped on the mid $17,000 number with the mats and net. Unfortunately in NY, we get royally screwed with taxes both large (8.625 to pay for those new stadiums!!!) and small (tire disposal tax- $12 And I had them do the dmv stuff, life's too short to deal with the DMV.
