#938 of 1950 Wireless/DVD/Navigation
Oct 01, 2003 (4:06 pm)
I have talked to several people regarding the lack of controls for the DVD system in my Aiator Kitty Hawk edition. I'm told by some that it was a misprint in the manual which shows "Chapter, FF, etc." controls for the DVD through the Nav screen. Lincoln customer service told me that they had no info that led them to believe there was misprint. On another note, does anyone know if the new bluetooth wireless feature can be retrofitted to the 2003 Aviator which has the late model year DVD Nav/voice command system.
#939 of 1950 Just Curious...Whine 2WD or 4WD?

Are the cars exhibiting this whine both 2 and 4WD? Just curious...
#940 of 1950 '03 pricing?
Oct 01, 2003 (4:34 pm)
I found an '03 AWD locally, and the internet/fleet manager is offering $100 over invoice, which comes out to $45,200. It's a silver/med. ash, AWD, NAV, upgraded audio, heated/cooled seats, tow package. She says current specials are $4k back or $2k back plus 0%. Is this a good deal, or should it be better? I've heard many on this board getting Aviators for $34-36k. Thanks for any help and ammo for when I meet her in person to check out the vehicle.
#941 of 1950 whining and vibration
Oct 01, 2003 (5:12 pm)
have an '02 explorer v8 awd/4wd. have the whine(throttle on, reminds me of noisy fuel pump), and the vibration which seems to be more noticeable as the temp drops into the 60's(65-70 mph). will happily drive most of the time with no vibes, especially during the summer. i only seem to notice the whine for a while.
have goodyear tires, dealer said mich's would fix most of the vibes.
mlwlk and lee1000, thanks for the info and good descriptions.
btw local dealer offering new '03s, list 42xxx for 299xx.

Akirby, what are some of the commands that the Nav system recognizes?
#943 of 1950 Aviator Sales in September
Oct 01, 2003 (6:46 pm)
As you noted, the Aviator outsold the Navigator in Septembner, even with the Navigator having sales that were up 11.7%.
The Aviator also outsold the Volvo XC90, 3260 vs. 3082. At this rate the Aviator is currently selling at a 39,120 a year rate.
#944 of 1950 various things

mp19fan - that's exactly like mine except mine is 2wd. I got it for $44,070 minus $5K rebate. The rebate varies by zip code so it may only be $4K. $100 over invoice is a good price - you might do better if it's been on the lot for awhile.
whine - mine's 2wd/3.55 regular axle. It only makes a high pitched whine between 55-60 - no vibration.
Voice commands - cd, am, fm1, fm2, map, radio, destination, track up, track down, seek up, seek down, disc up, disc down
hospitals, restaurants, gas, ATM, police station, hotel, rest area, home, bank, casino, I'm Hungry
The list goes on and on.

My vehicle is an AWD. Like "exlorerx4", mine was much worse with lower temps, although now it is all of the time when one drives above 55 mph. I really hope that Ford will look carefully at this problem, more importantly, to fix it.
#946 of 1950 LEMON LAW & THE AVIATOR REAR AXLE WHINE
Oct 02, 2003 (1:12 pm)
Here's a paragraph from the Lemon Law in my state. You can find out about your state's Lemon Law easily enough by using your ISP search engine.
"(c) If the manufacturer, converter, or distributor is unable to conform the motor vehicle to an applicable express warranty by repairing or correcting any defect or condition which creates a serious safety hazard or substantially impairs the use or market value of the motor vehicle after a reasonable number of attempts, the manufacturer, converter, or distributor shall (1) replace the motor vehicle with a comparable motor vehicle; or (2) accept return of the vehicle from the owner and refund to the owner the full purchase price less a reasonable allowance for the owner's use of the vehicle and any other allowances or refunds payable to the owner."
I hope Ford comes up with a "fix" for the Aviator's Rear Axle Whine very shortly and nobody has to invoke their state's Lemon Law, but the advice I'm receiving clearly points to that as a viable option in this situation.
Good luck to all you Aviator owners! Ps. Other than the Whine, I really love everything about my Aviator. I think it's a great SUV!
#947 of 1950 Voice Activated NAV
Oct 02, 2003 (4:09 pm)
Regarding the voice activation feature, do you press a button first to make the system listen to your commands? If so where is that button located?, and how well does the system work?
