I have an '03 Aviator with 65,000 miles on it. The car has been idling rough for 3+ years now. I first reported this during the factory warranty period (symptom documented by dealer, but not fixed). Problem was, the dealer was unable to pull codes. So years later, with same symptoms, the 'check engine' light comes on, and reports bad cylinder heads... Confirmed by another dealer after compression/leak-down tests. Worst part is, the car is not driveable as it has began to go into shut-down/limp mode. To make a long story short, both heads need replacing at a cost of $6,000 to $7,000 for parts/labor. I called Ford customer support and explained my story... they say "sorry pal, you are hosed... warranty expired..." and refused to provide any assistance or suggestions. Obviously, they aren't interested in spending more of the Government's bailout money on keeping loyal Ford customers (I also purchased 4 new Ford vehicles for my company). Besides doing the fix or replacing the motor (cost is about the same), does anyone have any suggestions?

All it took was a compression test which I assume they did the first time. If they fixed every problem after the warranty period they might as well just give out a lifetime warranty (and add several thousand to the cost of every vehicle). And in case you haven't been paying attention, Ford didn't take any bailout money. |
