2003 altima 2.5s vibration problem by tmnjalt

flygo- I'm having same vibration problem idling
in drive. I bought the car on 10/10 only have 900 miles on it. I did not notice the rough idle during the test drive but it may have been there.
I also have a slight high pitched whining noise from the engine at rpms above 2700-2800 but dealer claims this normal (see post 59). I think we need to complain loudly to Nissan until these problems are fixed. I will post any new info. Please do the same if you get any news.

tmnjalt-what are you gonna do then?
I bought it on 09/23, did not notice the problem as well, guess it was not a problem back then.
I'll share with you if I have any new info regarding that.

flygo- have you brought yours in for service ?
I'm making an appt for early next week.
This is a great engine, but these problems are
not acceptable in a new car.

Never buy new model by abpelch1

This is why I NEVER buy the first model year from ANY auto manufacturer. I'm even leary of purchasing the 2nd year of a new model. Did it once, won't do it again.
I'll let all the people who can't wait & have to be the first to be seen driving around in a new model experience all the problems. Even a reliable brand such as Nissan has their problems. It's not too bad buying a new model if the engine is proven, but the Altima's engine is also a brand new design. I'll be waiting till the 2004 model year to buy my Altima (after most bugs have been worked out).

2001 Altima Surges by mrsvalentine

I just recently purchased a 2001 altima GXE with only 28.5k miles. Beatiful car, however, I seem to be having problems. When I am on about 39 or 40 mph, it seems to surge. Like it is choking. Just slightly. Not hard, but enough to become annoying. The nissan service manager says that this is normal becuase it is going into over drive and all altima gxe does this around the same speed. Is this true?

My understanding is the engine in the 2002/2003 Altima is the exact same engine they've been using in the Maxima for years.

The V6 in the Altima is pretty much the same as the one used in the Maxima for years, but the 4-cylinder is brand new. I think that is what abpelch1 was referring to.

Yes, I was referring to the 4cyl engine as being a new design. I would consider buying a 6cyl this year, as that engine is proven and has been given many accolades by the press. However, I cannot find a 6cyl Altima equipped as I want. Seems all SE models are loaded & more $$$ than I can afford.

Vibration in the 2.5 S by bsapp

I was the writer of post # 32 regarding vibration in the 2.5 Altimas. Since I traded my car back in March with 5,400 miles on it, I've had the opportunity to drive two other 2.5 automatics. One belonged to a friend of mine who wasn't aware I wasn't happy with mine and the other was a rental through Budget Rent A Car of Las Vegas. Folks, they all vibrate the same, one just as much as the other. It has to be the design of the car. In this day and age and with the capabilities of Nissan, it's really unacceptable. My car was checked by two different dealerships, both said it was operating within spec and the first dealership that checked it added "but if that vibration bothers you, we can bump the idle speed up a bit but that may give you a whole other set of problems." The service tech at the second dealership said "man, these things are as smooth as glass". I then had him get in and start it up and put it in drive (a/c off) and he sat there with a clueless look on his face until I said, "don't you feel that.....all through the steering wheel, the brake pedal, the seat..." then turned the a/c on and it worsened. "Oh that, well, they all do that, it's the four cylinder design, now the V6 won't do that." I switched it off and said, so much for it being "smooth as glass". At that moment, I knew I didn't want the car so I traded that afternoon for an Impala LS that I'm very happy with. Each time I see a 2.5, I think about my car. I'm sorry these cars are like this, again beautiful cars to look at, but highly overrated. If you must have an Altima, get the V6 or better yet, go for a Maxima if you can.

01' Nissan Ultima pulls to the right by amontemagni

Greetings, I am considering purchasing a 01' Altima GXE LE. I drove it last night and it pulls to the right a lot. The owner just had 4 new tires installed and the alignment was checked. He told me that Nissan's are known for their "pulling to the right". I do understand that some cars have torque steer that will pull them to the right, but it was doing it when I was just cruising along. Does this sound like something is wrong or is this true of Nissan's? Or did the alignment guy screw up?
Thanks.
