#1109 of 2710 Light engine shaking
Jul 02, 2005 (6:17 pm)
Ok I have a 1997 altima and a problem I have with it is that it shakes lightly vibrating the car. You can see the rpms moving up and down a little repeatively. The only thing that stops this is when I turn my ac on then the rpm steadies and the engines stops shaking. What the exactly is causing this, it's rather annoying.
Re: Air conditioning not effective [meegs24]
"I have the same problem in my 1996 Altima. For the last few summers i've almost died in my car. Sometimes my air works and sometimes it doesn't. It often doesn't work on really hot days. They air will blow cold for a second or two if at all and then it blows out hot, muggy, wet, nasty air. I had my a/c recharged last week but that didn't do anything. I've talked to many mechanics and no one knows what is going on. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. My wife and two daughters are dying without a/c. Thanks"
My 97 GXE does the same. Not exactly like that but it doesn't get cool like other cars I've been it. It takes a while to cool down and when it does it's still a little muggy. Maybe Nissan put in a crappy A/C they have to save money somewhere when creating an "affordable luxury"
#1110 of 2710 Transmission/Starting Problems
Jul 04, 2005 (8:55 am)
I have a 1995 Altima. When I get to about 35-40 mph, the RPM increases as I push the gas, but the transmission does NOT shift back down and increase my MPH. My car stays at 35-50 mph, while the RPM climbs to 4000 - 6000. I just let go of the gas and the RPM goes down. Along with this, the gear shifts are very jerky. Also, I have problems starting the car
I'm at a lost and been having this problem for about three weeks. Don't know what to do. Can't find a trusted mechanic, etc. HELP ME PLEASE.

#1112 of 2710 Speed problem Altima 05 se 3.5
Jul 04, 2005 (8:58 pm)
I have a question about the RPM and speed, when i go at 115 miles of speed, the auto trans, never changes to the fifth, and the speed never raise at 5000 rpm. the dealer say to me, that is normal, because the car has gobernor, also in the specs sheet. marks, 250 hp 5800rpm and the max speed in gages is 140 miles.
any of you have similar problem.
i have some troubles w/ unbalanced disk brakes, noisy tires, shock absorbers etc.
The car only have 6000 miles.
i think the problem is into the electronic computer.
please send me info about this, and technical data related that speed & relation of auto trans. when came the shift at what speed.
or if the computer is gobernated what is the maximum speed.
#1113 of 2710 98 Altima EVAP problem "Help"
Jul 05, 2005 (2:11 pm)
I had taken my car to the dealership because the check engine soon light came on (code p1440) and the car would try to stall every time I would stop after the car was warmed up. They installed a new canister and control valve in the EVAP system. The car still acted the same way and the check engine soon light came on again less than two days later. I went back to the dealer and the code was still the same (p1440). Since they fixed nothing I asked to have my old parts put back on( I checked old parts and found nothing wrong). I still have this problem and am looking for advice since the dealer doesn't want to deal with me anymore.
Jul 05, 2005 (3:54 pm)
The dealer put in parts that didn't solve the problem and you asked for your parts back and hopefully a refund and now they "don't want to deal with you anymore". Sounds like you're better off. What kinda crap were they giving you. You paid to fix a problem they couldn't or didn't fix. I don't understand how their service department can stay in business and what happened to the customer should get what they paid for? Am I out of line here folks?
Go find another Nissan dealer or a trusted mechanic, word of mouth is the best recommendation of all and I'd personally write a letter to the owner of the dealership and the Consumer Office of the city you live in. You'd be surprised how that can help. No dealership wants negative publicity at all. Even call a television station that has a consumer watchdog and "sick 'em" on the dealership. Never underestimate the power of the consumer!!!
(We're no longer an Altima owner as we traded our Alty in for a new '05 Mazda3 S and are very happy. We're zoom zooming outta here. Ciao all!)

Jul 06, 2005 (3:09 pm)
It is almost a slipping type thing. I have noticed that if I am accelerating hard that the shift between first and second is pretty smooth. However, under light acceleration, the shift is a LOT less smooth and tends to jerk as it shifts. I know that the new 5-spd JATCO transmission on our Mazda MPV had a similar issue that was corrected using a transmission programming re-flash. Perhaps the same thing can be done for the Altima.
#1117 of 2710 Re: 96 Altima Screeching noise with A/C
Jul 08, 2005 (6:17 am)
I drive a 1996 Altima and I think I have the same problem. The noise comes and goes with the braking and the acceleration. But I have noticed that it really seems to be related to the A/C! Only when the A/C is on does the screeching occur.
When I turn off the A/C, the noise temporarily goes away. I think the problem has got to be with the A/C... does anyone know what the problem is?
I thought I was the only one with the problem until yesterday I drove past another
old Altima and the same horrific screeching noise came out.
Help. I have suffered too long with this. If someone knows how to fix the problem please post it.

Was your sunroof factory installed? Mine is. And do you notice the noise constantly? I now hear the rattling/flapping noise when the sunroof is both open and closed. I'm taking mine to a different service center this week to see if they can diagnose the problem so I was wondering what exactly your issue is with the sunroof.
